Congress MP Ponnam Prabhakar on Wednesday predicted that the state may witness ‘serious situations’ after August 1 in the event of the Centre failing to announce a decision on the Telangana statehood demand.

Talking to media persons, Mr Prabhakar called upon all Telangana leaders to make united and concrete efforts towards the formation of state by keeping aside their party agenda and flags.

He said that the Telangana elected representatives who submitted their resignations should make efforts for acceptance of their resignations by the Assembly Speaker and mount pressure on the Centre by creating Constitutional crisis.

Mr Prabhakar also demanded that the Centre either accept the resignations of elected representatives or announce the formation of separate Telangana state.

The MP also urged the Legislators and Ministers who have submitted their resignations not to participate in any official programmes.

“Their participation in the official programmes would send a wrong message and dampen the spirit of agitationists,” he pointed out.

Recalling the statement of Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, the December 9, 2009 statement of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram was made in `haste’ to in the wake of the deteriorating health of Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao, who was on fast unto death at that time, Mr Prabhakar asked what the Union Minister has been doing since the past two years.

“Does it take two years to rectify the statement,” he questioned.

Stating that the Congress would bite the dust in the Telangana region if it fails to announce a separate state, he demanded Centre to stand by Mr Chidambaram’s statement and respect the aspirations of people of the region.
