Eluru MP Kavuri Sambhasiva Rao on Friday stated that he was not against bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, provided it takes place with a clear agenda and solid basis.
Talking to media persons after meeting Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy at the Camp Office, the MP stated that the state should not be divided on the basis of sentiments of ‘some’ people, but with a clear agenda.
Mr Sambhasiva Rao further alleged that elected representatives of the region are misguiding the people and provoking them using their emotions.
“We are not objecting to the division of the state if it is has any scientific basis. The division should have a clear agenda. The country will be divided into a thousand parts if such decisions are taken based on the sentiments some section of the people. The bifurcation should not have any ‘ulterior motive’ nor should it benefit only a particular political group,” the MP stated.
“The formation of smaller states should be done with clear agenda and it should be for the benefit the people,” he added.
Expressing serious concern over the ebbing of values in politics, Mr Sambhasiva Rao criticized the Telangana leaders for targeting Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. “They have not even spared Justice Srikrishna Committee members in this regard,” he lamented.
Stating that there was no need to apprise the Srikrishna Committee members of their responsibilities and duties, the MP stated that, “I am neither happy nor do I have any regrets about the opinion expressed by the members of the Panel in the eighth chapter of their Report. The eighth chapter in the SKC Report cautions the Centre that Maoist influence and communal violence is likely to increase in the event of formation of Telangana state.
When asked why he did not attend the meeting of Seemandhra MPs called by Congress In-Charge of Andhra Pradesh Affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mr Sambhasiva Rao stated that he was pre-occupied with some personal problems.
