The new Andhra Pradesh government, led by the TDP alliance, has swiftly taken action regarding the controversial liquor policy implemented by the previous YCP government. A CID probe has been ordered into alleged wrongdoings related to the policy, following a raid on the home of a former APSBCL manager.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, in a statement, stressed the commitment to uncovering the truth and ensuring accountability for any irregularities.

Adding to the ongoing debate, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan addressed the issue of liquor prohibition, stating that a complete ban is unrealistic given the state's context. He emphasized the need for a nuanced approach, suggesting the establishment of de-addiction centers to help those struggling with alcohol addiction. Kalyan proposed allocating ten percent of excise revenue towards funding these centers.

He further criticized the YCP government for skipping Assembly sessions related to the issue, suggesting they were avoiding scrutiny over potential irregularities in the Excise department.

The TDP government's decisive action on the liquor policy signals a clear departure from the previous administration's approach. The proposed de-addiction centers demonstrate a commitment to addressing the social impact of alcohol consumption, while the CID investigation aims to bring transparency and accountability to the implementation of the liquor policy. The ongoing debate on the issue is likely to continue, with the new government's actions setting the stage for a more comprehensive approach to liquor policy in the state.
