Sharmila to take on Avinash Reddy in Kadapa. Andhra Pradesh Congress chief Y.S. Sharmila Reddy is considering contesting as a Member of Parliament (MP) candidate from the Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency. With the Election Commission of India (ECI) announcing the elections for the Lok Sabha and AP Legislative Assembly, the Congress party’s central election committee has initiated the selection of nominees for the upcoming elections in AP.

Following a suggestion from senior All India Congress Committee (AICC) leaders, Sharmila Reddy is likely to contest from the Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency. In addition to the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief, several other senior Congress leaders are also expected to contest in the forthcoming polls in AP.

The media reports suggest that Sharmila Reddy is poised to make the Kadapa seat an interesting battleground by potentially challenging her cousin, Avinash Reddy. It is rumored that Sharmila will be the Congress candidate for the Kadapa constituency, setting the stage for a significant political showdown. Kadapa has historically been a stronghold of the Congress party in the combined state, but it was captured by the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP). YS Avinash Reddy is the current MP representing the constituency.

If Sharmila indeed becomes the candidate, it would set the stage for a major political contest. Meanwhile, YS Vivekananda Reddy’s daughter, Sunitha, has been actively seeking justice in her father's case. She has frequently targeted Avinash Reddy, alleging that he is being protected in the murder case. While there were earlier reports suggesting that Sunitha might contest the elections, it now appears that the Congress party is considering fielding Sharmila as its candidate from the Kadapa seat. Many speculate that Sunitha might support Sharmila in this endeavor.

Sharmila's entry into Congress has injected new energy into Andhra Pradesh's political landscape. Since assuming the role of state chief, she has been actively targeting YS Jagan and his party, setting the stage for a high-stakes face-off. Responding to speculations about Sharmila Reddy's candidacy from Kadapa, YSR Congress state general secretary and government advisor (public affairs) Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy stated that the AP Congress chief has the right to contest the elections, and the choice of constituency is hers to make. However, he noted that the Congress in AP has consistently received fewer votes than NOTA (None of the Above) and could not compete with his party in the state.
