Unni Mukundan's starrer Malaikapuram is going great guns at the box office. The film which is racing towards Rs100crs in Malayalam released in Tollywood and is taking viewers on a spiritual sojourn. Unni Mukundan speaking to scribes, turned emotional on Malaikapuram.

On Malikapuram's success he said "Being a devotee, I was touched by the storyline, and it contributed to my confidence. A major part of the confidence came from the fact that the protagonists here were Kalyani, and Ayyappa Swami. When children take the centre stage, even the staunch critics don’t go harsh. On the other hand, Lord Ayyappa has a fan (devotee) base across the world. A day prior to the release, I wrote that the film guarantees goosebumps, which is something I have never said in my 11 years long career. For someone who is a devotee and believes in that energy, I was moved, and I was sure that the audience would like it too'

On people moving to tears and waiting till the end cards and Harivarasanam song by Yesudas, Unni Mukundan shared "on a personal note, I wanted the audience to have that goosebump moment, especially in the fantasy sequence, because we have always heard and seen Lord Ayyappa visualized as a teenager. There is no depiction of him in a grown-up, beard avatar. And, that particular scene, also fits well, when the concept of Tatvamasi is considered."

On people considering him as Lord Ayyappa, Unni Mukundan shares "It is a huge blessing. These are the kind of roles that will stay with you for a long time. ‘Malikappuram’ is my biggest hit, not only in terms of numbers but also in elevating my graph as an actor. I am touched by the audience response. There was this elderly gentleman, in his 90s, who said that he will never be able to go to Sabarimala, because of his ill health, but watching the film gave him what he wanted! As an actor, these are the moments you live for."
