Much celebrated Sankranthi season is coming to an end today. This year witnessed big releases and clash of Titans in both Tollywood and Kollywood. Chiranjeevi's Waltair Veerayya and Nandamuri Balakrishna's Veera Simha Reddy clashed in Telugu while Vijay's Varisu and Ajith's Thunivu locked horns in Tamil. Thunivu and Varisu were released on 11th January and kick-started Pongal celebrations at the boxoffice. Varisu is made as a family entertainer with mass elements while Thunivu is an out and out action film. Both films raked in big numbers while Varisu got better talk for its emotional content and action packed second half. Thunivu got below average talk as the film is loud and packed with over the top action.
Coming to Telugu, Balakrishna's Veera Simha Reddy was released on 12th January and opened with Balakrishna's career highest numbers on its day one. But, the non-stop fights with a wafer thin story didn't connected well with the audience. But, the film keeps ringing the registers during festive season. It has to be seen how the film fares in normal days. Waltair Veerayya released on January 13th opened with positive reports. Though the reviews stated that it is just another regular commercial film, audience think otherwise. They got connected to the humor and emotion in the film. The film keeps on growing from day to day and emerged as clear Sankranthi Winner.
Now, at the Usa Box-office. Veera Simha Reddy started big with huge premier numbers, $ 700 K but eventually failed to continue the momentum due to poor word of mouth and crossed $ 1 Million. It need to reach $ 1.2 Million to get Breakeven. Thunivu with a target of $ 650 K has crossed it easily and zooms past $ 1 Million. Varisu crossed $ 1 Million but it has long way to go to reach the break even target of $ 1.5 Million. Waltair Veerayya with Breakeven target of $ 1.6 Million has crossed within four days and currently trending at $ 1.9 Million.
