What's Behind

Thalapathy Vijay's action entertainer Beast directed by Nelson Dilip Kumar hit the screens today amidst huge expectations. The film's promotions generated immense hype and the presence of Pooja Hegde excited all. Let us see what impact Vijay made on movie lovers with Beast.

Story Review

Veera Raghavan aka Veera (Vijay) gets attracted to Preeti (Pooja Hegde) and he at her request decides to join a security agency. They go to the East Coast Mall in Chennai and then shocking developments take place. To find out what are those shocking developments and how most wanted terrorist Umar Farooq is connected to it, watch Beast on the screen.

Artists, Technicians Review

Expectations soared when Nelson Dilip Kumar who entertained with Varun Doctor teamed with Vijay. He tried to Vijay as a powerful RAW agent and generate humor surrounding him in serious situations. However, with a predictable and weak story and narration, his effort came to nothing. The story lacked novelty and monotonous, illogical scenes in the name of comedy turned the film into a silly one. The first half looks ok with humor setting the tone for the serious action. However, the silly execution in the second half filling the entire story with over-the-top action scenes lacking emotions tested the patience of the viewers.

Vijay played the role tailor-made for him in an effortless manner. Vijay looked stylish and handsome and sported a stylish look. He enacted breathtaking stunts to thrill his fans. However, he came with a singular expression much to the disappointment of the movie lovers. The weak storyline did not help Vijay in any manner.

Pooja Hegde did not get much chance to perform and she is confined to a song at the start of the first half, goes missing for most of the second half, and appears in a song after the end of the film. Selva Raghavan did well as the police officer while Yogi Babu is underused. Others like VTV Ganesh, Sathish Krishnan, and Redin Kingsley performed accordingly. Ankur Vikal, Shine Tom Chacko, Aparna Das, and others did what was required from them.

Anirudh Ravichander's music is ok. The songs are well shot. Arabic Kuthu song is a treat to watch and so too is Jolly O Gymkhana. He elevated the scenes with his thumping background music. Dialogues are just ok. The cinematography of Manoj Paramahansa is good. Editing of Nirmal could have been far better. Production values are good.

Rating Analysis

Nelson Dilip Kumar showed Vijay in a stylish avatar to thrill all his fans. He elevated Vijay's heroism to satisfy his fans but in the process, he failed to concentrate on the main lifeline. He failed with the story and missed the emotional part. The film failed to connect chords with the movie lovers and with everything looking silly and overtop, Beast turned out to be a routine affair. Considering all these elements, CJ goes to with a 1.75 rating for Beast.
