Bollywood is raving about Sanju, the biopic on controversial actor Sanjay Dutt. The Ranbir Kapoor starrer directed by Rajkumar Hirani landed in various controversies.
Though the film did well at the box office, many lashed out at the makers for giving virtual clean chit to Sanjay Dutt in the 1993 Mumbai blasts. Even the Censor Board questioned the makers for conveniently ignoring the important persons in Sanjay Dutt’s biopic and how it could be called as a biopic.
In the meantime, the makers got a huge shock when dreaded gangster Abu Salem sent legal notices claiming that they made malicious and defamatory remarks against him in the film. Abu Salem’s lawyer Prashant Pandey sent notice to director Raj Kumar Hirani and co-producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
Referring to a particular scene in the biopic, the notice said, “The scene, where Ranbir Kpoor (who plays Dutt) gives a confessional statement about possession of arms and ammunition during communal tension around our country in 1993, is defaming my client (Salem), as my client never supplied arms and ammunition to Sanjay Dutt, as pictured in the film.”
Abu Salem gave 15 days time to respond failing which he warned of taking appropriate action. Salem is currently serving life sentence in Taloja Jail in adjoining Navi Mumbai for Mumbai serial blasts case.
