AR Rahman Is Not A Music Director: Sirivennela

Sirivennela Shastri is the legendary lyricist lifted the standards of Telugu cinema songs and music high by many steps. In parallel to penning the lyrics for straight Telugu films, he is remaining very selective at dubbing films. Last year, Shastri garu helped a great extent in musical and public reach of Mani Ratnam’s ‘Ok Bangaram’ and this year ‘Cheliyaa.’ Both of them had music composed by AR Rahman.

‘I enjoy the freedom and liberty working with AR Rahman and Mani Ratnam. They never restrict me with boundaries like syncing the lyrics with lips and so on. It is a great previlige and honor to work with two such great persons.   

Thyagaraya Swamy is though a great musician and Shankaracharya as though a greatest poet, we never dare to call them as musician and poet respectively. Like wise, AR Rahman cannot be called a music director because his music, his expression is on altogether is on a new pedestal which is still unnamed. His compositions are neither music nor magic but something like Manthra or a Sadhana, an other pedestal. My request for Mani Ratnam and AR Rahman is, please give me one chance a year to write songs for your songs. That would be enough for me to feel proud of myself,’ Sirivennela said.
