Imran Khan Receives Mumbai Police Notice Asked to Leave India

Bollywood actor Imran Khan, nephew of Aamir Khan, has reportedly received a notice from Mumbai Police directing him to leave India by October 28. According to media reports, the action follows his participation in a protest held at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan. Imran Khan is reportedly a US passport holder.
The protest called for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to resign. Reports state that Imran Khan was detained by police on Saturday in connection with the demonstration. Following the incident, he shared a photograph of himself sitting inside a police vehicle on social media, adding a light hearted caption suggesting that he was being taken for a drive.
Speaking about his participation in the protest, Imran Khan reportedly said he attended as someone who lives in Mumbai rather than to push any specific demand. He also questioned restrictions on freedom of movement and the right of people to express their opinions. His remarks have added another dimension to the controversy surrounding the incident.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya reportedly sought strict action against the actor, alleging that his participation violated Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) rules or visa conditions. Somaiya said he had submitted material relating to the actor’s protest speech and earlier comments to the authorities. The Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), which oversees matters concerning foreign nationals’ stay and immigration compliance, may be involved in such cases. Further official clarification on the notice and the next steps is awaited.
