Sai Pallavi to Replace Deepika Padukone in Kalki 2898 AD Part 2

Sai Pallavi is reportedly set to play Sumathi in Nag Ashwin’s highly anticipated Kalki 2898 AD sequel, replacing Deepika Padukone. This is not new news. Well, According to industry reports, the actress is expected to join the Hyderabad shoot in November. However, the makers’ official confirmation will be needed to establish the casting as final.
Sumathi is central to the Kalki storyline, as she carries the unborn avatar of Lord Vishnu. The first film followed Bhairava, played by Prabhas, and Ashwatthama, portrayed by Amitabh Bachchan, as they tried to protect her from Supreme Yaskin, played by Kamal Haasan. Her role is expected to remain crucial in the sequel.
Sai Pallavi has earned a loyal following through performances in Fidaa, Love Story, Shyam Singha Roy and Amaran. Her reputation for emotionally grounded acting could suit Sumathi’s demanding character. Her popularity across Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam audiences may also strengthen the sequel’s pan Indian appeal.
The Telugu market is not new for Sai Pallavi, given her established popularity there. However, replacing Deepika could invite comparisons, while expectations surrounding Sumathi’s emotional journey will be high. Reports suggest filming could continue into 2027, with a possible 2028 release. Produced by Vyjayanthi Movies, Kalki 2 also stars Prabhas and brings Sai Pallavi into Nag Ashwin’s ambitious science fiction universe.
