Vijay Sethupathi Gesture For Mani Ratnam Film Winning Hearts

Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi is reportedly making a significant pay cut to work with acclaimed filmmaker Mani Ratnam again. Industry reports suggest that the actor has agreed to a remuneration of around ₹6 crore for Inji Vellam, compared with his reported market fee of ₹15 crore. However, neither the actor nor the makers have officially confirmed these figures.
The reported decision has caught attention because Vijay Sethupathi has established himself across Tamil, Telugu and Hindi cinema, taking on everything from lead roles to memorable supporting characters. His reunion with Mani Ratnam comes after their 2018 film Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, in which he played Rasool, a police officer caught in a story of crime and family rivalry.
Titled Inji Vellam, the upcoming film pairs Vijay Sethupathi with Sai Pallavi for the first time in a Mani Ratnam directorial. The first look poster, unveiled in September 2026, offered a rain soaked glimpse of the lead pair and hinted at an intimate romantic drama. The film is produced by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions.
A.R. Rahman is composing the music, with Avik Mukhopadhyay handling cinematography and Sreekar Prasad overseeing editing. Shooting has included Kolkata, with the film currently planned for a January 2027 theatrical release. While the remuneration story remains unverified, Vijay Sethupathi’s collaboration with Mani Ratnam has already made Inji Vellam one to watch among upcoming Tamil films.
