Suriya and Mani Ratnam Reportedly Planning New Film
A potential reunion between Suriya and acclaimed filmmaker Mani Ratnam is creating buzz in Tamil cinema. According to recent reports, the director is considering a project with Suriya after completing Inji Vellam, his romantic drama starring Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi. The proposed collaboration is currently at the discussion stage.
Reports suggest Mani Ratnam had narrated a story to Suriya nearly eight years ago, but the project never materialised. The filmmaker is now said to be revisiting that script, making necessary changes before presenting the revised version to Suriya. The actor’s approval would determine whether the long discussed project eventually moves into production.
Mani Ratnam is currently working on Inji Vellam, which pairs Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi in the lead roles. The film has been officially announced for a January 2027 theatrical release, with A R Rahman composing the music. Major portions were filmed in Kolkata, while the story details remain under wraps.
A Suriya-Mani Ratnam reunion would mark another chapter in their association following Aayutha Ezhuthu / Yuva in 2004, where Suriya was one of the three protagonists. They later collaborated through the Navarasa anthology for Netflix. While no official announcement has been made about their next film together, the reported revival of their earlier script has already generated considerable interest.
