Vijay Deverakonda Joins Warangal Airport Naming Debate

The proposed international airport at Warangal’s Mamunur has sparked a fresh naming discussion after Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy invited public suggestions. Several film personalities have joined the conversation, proposing names connected to Warangal’s history, heritage and cultural identity. The final name has not yet been announced.

Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga suggested Rudrama International Airport and Kakatiya International Airport, saying a name reflecting Warangal’s heritage would be meaningful. Director Srikanth Odela proposed Sammakka-Saralamma International Airport, highlighting the region’s historical and spiritual significance. Producer actor Bandla Ganesh separately suggested Rani Rudrama Devi International Airport.

Actor Vijay Deverakonda also responded to the airport development, thanking Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and supporting the heritage focused suggestions. He highlighted Rudramadevi and Kakatiya names as reminders of Orugallu’s history. His response adds another prominent Tollywood voice to the ongoing public discussion surrounding the airport’s proposed name.

The Warangal airport project has broader regional significance beyond its name. In July, Revanth Reddy sought facilities including MRO, air cargo and hangars, while requesting completion by June 2, 2028. The Telangana government has also said the airport’s design should reflect Warangal’s Kakatiya heritage and cultural identity.
