Makers Of Premalu And BKU Announces Picnic
Following the blockbuster success of Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, Bhavana Studios has announced Picnic as its next Malayalam production. Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan and Syam Pushkaran are backing the project, which is scheduled to reach theatres on January 14, 2027, continuing the banner’s focus on fresh, character driven stories.
Picnic marks the directorial debut of Kiran Josey, who has co written the screenplay with Anuraj OB. Kiran previously worked as a co writer on Premalu and Bethlehem Kudumba Unit. The first look poster presents a seemingly cheerful family gathering, although the makers have kept the film’s story and genre details under wraps.
Sandeep Pradeep leads an ensemble cast featuring Indrajith Sukumaran, Dileesh Pothan, Sujin Sreedharan, Akshatha Ajith, Reshma Jose and several others. The technical team includes composer Govind Vasantha, lyricist Suhail Koya, cinematographer Adarsh Sadanandan, editor Sanath Sivaraj and production designer Vivek Kalathil.
Picnic arrives after the phenomenal run of Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, directed by Girish AD and starring Nivin Pauly and Mamitha Baiju. The film has crossed the ₹300 crore worldwide mark and surpassed Lokah to become the highest Kerala grossing Malayalam film, according to recent industry reports.
The success strengthens Bhavana Studios’ reputation for backing unconventional and audience-friendly cinema. Fahadh Faasil has also credited fresh storytelling for Bethlehem Kudumba Unit’s success. With Picnic bringing together a debutant director and a diverse cast, expectations will centre on whether Kiran Josey can deliver another distinctive Malayalam film.
