Anant Nag To Receive Prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award

Anant Nag’s role in the KGF franchise introduced the veteran Kannada actor to a much wider audience beyond Karnataka. Now, his remarkable career receives the country’s highest cinema honour, with Anant Nag chosen for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2024 for his contribution to Indian cinema.
The prestigious honour will be presented at the 72nd National Film Awards ceremony on September 22, 2026, at Ekta Nagar in Kevadia, Gujarat. The President of India will confer the awards at the ceremony, which recognises outstanding achievements in Indian cinema during 2024.
Born Anant Nagarkatte in 1948, Anant Nag has built an extensive filmography across Kannada and several other Indian languages. His acclaimed works include Malgudi Days, Nishant, Accident, Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu and the KGF films, besides his memorable television appearance in Malgudi Days.
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award, instituted in 1969, honours outstanding lifetime contributions to the growth and development of Indian cinema. Anant Nag’s recognition follows Mohanlal in 2025 and Mithun Chakraborty in 2024, continuing the tradition of honouring celebrated Indian film personalities.
