Yash's Toxic A Fairy Tale for Grown Ups directed by Geetu Mohandas releasing worldwide on August 26 faces fresh hurdle in Tamil Nadu beyond Telugu states Irumudi screen battle. Produced by Venkat K Narayana KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations, this gangster action thriller stars Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth across 12000 screens worldwide.
Theatre owners and distributors in Tamil Nadu demand eight week theatrical window before OTT release to protect box office. Producers association rejected demand announcing stoppage of new Tamil films shoots from September 1. Dispute raises questions whether 700 theatre Tamil Nadu release of Yash film will be affected next week.
Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association president Subramanian told that dispute will not affect Toxic release. He confirmed film will release in around 700 theatres in Tamil Nadu alone on August 26 as scheduled. He added post September 1 situation uncertain as producers announced without understanding exhibitor expectations clearly now.
Producers treasurer Dhananjayan said OTT platforms importance if film fails citing Thaai Kizhavi sold after six weeks while Youth after five weeks. He said Toxic avoids issue as it is releasing before deadline. Advance bookings crossed 7.5 lakh tickets worth Rs 36.21 crore and Karnataka leading with Rs 16.4 crore with still a day ahead of release.
