Sowcar Janaki passes away leaving all tear struck

Sowcar Janaki, 94 year old Tollywood actress passed away today couple of hours back in Chennai. She breathed her last due to ill health. She was admitted in hospital couple of days back due to ill health in ICU.

Nadigar Sangam President Nassar confirmed the news confirmed the demise with the statement . “Legendary star Sowcar Janaki (94) passed away. Her mortal remains will be placed at Centoph Road, Teyampet, from 5 PM,” She breathed her last at 1.59 PM today.

Couple of days back Kayal shared “#SowcarJanaki August 19th. Veteran actress Sowcar Janaki (aged 94) has been admitted to Kauvery Hospital in Alwarpet, Chennai, due to ill health. She is currently receiving intensive medical care.”

Nassar informed the press via a statement that Janaki died on August 21 at the age of 94 following brief hospitalisationread his statement. She died at 1:59 PM on Friday.

Born as Sankaramanchi Janaki in a Kannada-speaking family in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, Sowcar Janaki was married off as a minor by her family. She used to work as a radio jockey at Aakashavani Madras (All India Radio). In 1947, she was married off to Sankaramanchi Srinivasa Rao.


Sowcar Janaki made her debut with Shavukaru in 1950 under the direction of LV. Prasad. She went on to star in many hit films in various languages. She has two daughters and a son, Yagna Prabha Koty, Venkataramana Sankaramanchi, and Sachi Rao.

Janaki has appeared in nearly 400 films. She also performed on stage in over 300 shows and was a radio artist during her earlier years. She is the recipient of two Nandi Awards, a Kalaimamani, she also won Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award - South for outstanding contributions to South Indian cinema and India's fourth-highest civilian award, Padma Shri
