Suriya and Trisha Krishnan’s Karuppu is doing big business at the box office. The film released on May 15 and became a huge hit in just 10 days. By day 10, the total worldwide collection is close to 250 crore. The film is directed by RJ Balaji and has strong support from family audiences. It is now the first Tamil film in nine months to cross 130 crore in Tamil Nadu alone. Trade experts say the film will easily cross 300 crore in its full run because of steady weekday shows and holiday push.

The film made 250 crore gross worldwide in 10 days. India gross stands at 180 crore and overseas is 70 crore, which is around 7+ million USD. Tamil Nadu alone gave almost 130 crore to the total. By day 10, the India net is above 160 crore from more than 55,995 shows. The film earned 125 crore net in India in its first week. The Tamil version is the biggest earner, but the Telugu version titled Veerabhadrudu also got good response. Overseas markets like USA, UAE, and Malaysia added nearly 65 to 70 crore to the total.

Looking at the territory wise numbers, Tamil Nadu leads with over 130 crore gross. Karnataka collected around 15 crore and Kerala added close to 12 crore. The Telugu states gave about 20 crore gross for Veerabhadrudu. The rest of India including North markets contributed 3 crore. Overseas, the USA and Canada gave 30 crore, UAE and GCC markets did 27 crore, and other regions like UK, Australia, and Singapore made up the rest. This wide reach helped Karuppu become Suriya’s first 200 crore film on the second Saturday itself.

On the business side, Karuppu is already a big profit for makers. The film was made on a budget of around 90 to 100 crore. With theatrical share from India at nearly 100 crore and overseas share at 40 crore, the recovery is already done. Digital, satellite, and music rights are sold for a high price, adding extra profit. Distributor Sakthivelan called the 100 crore Tamil Nadu mark a historic moment in his career. With strong word of mouth and no big releases next week, Karuppu is set for a long run and clear blockbuster status.
