Kangana Ranaut is currently promoting her upcoming film 'Emergency', in which she plays the role of former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. The film, which also marks her directorial debut, is based on the events of Emergency that occurred in India in the mid-80s. In a recent interview, Kangana compared her film to Christopher Nolan's Oscar-winning film, 'Oppenheimer', stating that both films have a similar approach, presenting different perspectives and leaving audiences confused about what to root for.

Kangana emphasized that her film, like 'Oppenheimer', does not compartmentalize people as simply good or bad, but rather presents a nuanced portrayal of Indira Gandhi. She also drew parallels between her film and Shakespeare's Macbeth, stating that both works explore the concept of hubris and how even the best of us can become victims of it. Kangana's film, 'Emergency', is set to release on September 6 and also stars the late Satish Kaushik, Shreyas Talpade, Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhry, and Milind Soman in pivotal roles.

Kangana's comparison of her film to 'Oppenheimer' has sparked interest, given the latter's critical acclaim and Oscar wins. 'Oppenheimer' starred Cillian Murphy in the lead role and won 7 Oscars in 2024, including Best Director and Best Picture. Kangana's 'Emergency' promises to be a thought-provoking film that explores the complexities of Indira Gandhi's character and the events of Emergency.

As the release date of 'Emergency' approaches, Kangana's statements have generated buzz and curiosity among audiences. With its unique blend of politics, drama, and Shakespearean elements, 'Emergency' is poised to be a significant film in Kangana's career, both as an actor and director.
