The Justice K. Hema Committee report on the condition of women in the Malayalam film industry has revealed shocking details of a "mafia" ruled by top actors, directors, and producers, who exploit and harass women actors. The report, released after a long delay, highlights the ineffective Internal Complaints Committee and the need for new measures to protect women's interests. Despite attempts to delay its release, the 289-page report exposes the dark side of the industry, where women face casting couch, intimidation, and exploitation.

The report details harrowing testimonies from women actors, including being forced to take shots with problematic individuals, facing threats, and being subjected to intimate scenes without consent. It also reveals the prevalence of casting couch, where women are coerced into sleeping with influential individuals for roles. Even basic necessities like good quality food on shooting locations require compromises.
