The highly anticipated films, Double Ismart And Mr. Bachchan, released on August 15, 2024, have ended up as massive box office disasters despite aggressive promotion. Double Ismart, directed by Puri Jagannadh and starring Ram Pothineni and Sanjay Dutt, failed to meet its pre-release business expectations, grossing less than Rs 25 crore against a required Rs 40 crore to break even. This marks another setback for Puri Jagannadh after the failure of Liger, resulting in significant losses as the producer.

Mr. Bachchan, produced by People Media Factor on a massive budget, also underperformed, unlikely to reach the required Rs 35 crore to be in the safe zone. Although the film's OTT rights were sold for Rs 33 crore, the makers will still incur losses of around Rs 15 crore. Despite featuring big stars and popular songs, both films were panned by audiences due to poor content, direction, and storytelling.

In contrast, the small film Aay, with new faces, has performed decently in Telugu states, outperforming these big-budget films. The digital rights of Double Ismart And Mr. Bachchan have been acquired by Netflix, with the films expected to land on OTT within a month of their release. This highlights the disappointing performance of these films, which failed to impress audiences.

The failure of Double Ismart And Mr. Bachchan serves as a reminder that aggressive promotion and big stars are not enough to guarantee success. Quality content, direction, and storytelling are essential to resonate with audiences and achieve box office success. As the films head to OTT platforms, it remains to be seen how they will perform in the digital space.
