Celina Jaitly, known for her roles in films like No Entry, has bravely shared her personal experiences of harassment and victim-shaming, highlighting the painful reality many women face. In a powerful social media post, she recounted harrowing incidents from her school days, exposing the culture of blaming the victim that continues to persist.

Celina described how, as a sixth-grader, she was relentlessly harassed by boys from a nearby university. They would follow her school rickshaw, make lewd comments, and even throw stones at her to get her attention. Despite witnessing this distressing behavior, bystanders remained indifferent, and when she confided in a teacher, she was told it was her fault for being "too westernised," for not wearing loose clothes, and for not tying her hair in braids.

The harassment escalated in the 11th grade, with the same group targeting her scooter, cutting its brake wires in retaliation for her refusing their advances. Celina found herself having to jump off her scooter to avoid an accident, causing her physical and emotional distress. Yet again, she was blamed for the incident, with her teacher attributing the boys' behavior to her "forward" demeanour, including riding a scooter, wearing jeans, and keeping her hair open.

Celina also revealed the pain her grandfather, a retired Colonel, endured as he escorted her to and from school, witnessing the harassment and the derogatory remarks made towards him. "His disgust at the very people he laid his life on line for," Celina wrote, poignantly capturing the grandfather's pain.

In a powerful concluding statement, Celina calls for a change in the narrative, demanding that victims be protected and not blamed. "It's time to stand up and ask for our right to be protected. WE ARE NOT AT FAULT!" she declared.

Celina's post resonates deeply with many women, as evidenced by the overwhelming number of comments from women who shared similar experiences. "Why do we have to go through this?" she lamented, expressing her heartbreak for all women and girls who continue to experience this form of abuse.

Celina's brave act of sharing her story comes amid protests against a horrific rape-murder incident in Kolkata, highlighting the urgency for societal change and the need to hold perpetrators accountable while supporting victims.
