The 70th National Film Awards are being announced today

The 70th National Film Awards are being announced today, August 16, by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) in New Delhi. This prestigious award ceremony honors the best films and cinematic achievements of 2022, recognizing excellence in Indian cinema. The awards consider films certified by the censor board between January 1 and December 31, 2022, and the winners will be felicitated by President Droupadi Murmu in a ceremony scheduled for October 2024.

While, the 69th National Awards was dominated by Tollywood with RRR winning six national awards and Allu Arjun as Best Actor for the first time in Telugu films, this time no notable award has been won by Tollywood except 'Karthikeya 2' that too in Best Telugu Film category. Kannada films Kantara and KGF 2 bagged a couple of National Awards each. While Kantara leads by winning Best Actor for Rishab Shetty and Best Popular Film categories. KGF 2 wins Best Action choreography by Anbariv and Best Kannada film.

Coming to Tamil films, Mani Rathnam's magnum opus, Ponniyin Selvan 1 has bagged four awards. AR Rahman is announced for Best Background Score for PS2, Ravi Varman for Best Cinematography in PS1, Best Sond Design for Anand Krishnamoorthy for PS1 and PS1 also bagged Best Tamil film. Best Film at national level has won by Malayalam film Aattam, which also won Best Screenplay award.
