I’m talking about myself. But I will not sell death, because it’s a matter of principle. Do you know that the yearly turnover for the paan-masala industry is Rs 45,000 crore? Which means that even the government is supporting it, and that’s why it isn’t illegal."

He further emphasized the responsibility that comes with being a public figure who can influence others. "It all comes down to making informed choices," he said, adding that he cannot understand how actors can claim to be selling 'elaichi' (cardamom) when they are actually endorsing tobacco products. "You're selling death. How can you live with it?" he questioned.

John's comments come at a time when Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Akshay Kumar have faced criticism for endorsing paan masala brands in the past. While Ajay has consistently maintained that his endorsement deals involve promoting mouth-freshners like cardamom, Akshay clarified in a social media post that he is no longer associated with such brands.

Meanwhile, John is currently promoting his upcoming film 'Vedaa,' which releases on August 15. The film, directed by Nikhil Advani, stars Sharvari Wagh and Abhishek Banerjee alongside John.
