Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, a romantic saga directed by Neeraj Pandey and starring Ajay Devgn and Tabu, has failed to impress at the domestic box office, earning only Rs 2 crore on its opening day, yesterday, August 3rd. Despite being the 10th film together for the lead actors, the movie's opening day collection is significantly lower than their previous collaborations, such as Drishyam (5.8 crore), Drishyam 2 (15.38 crore), Golmaal Again (30 crore), De De Pyaar De (8.5 crore), and Bholaa (11 crore).
The film's poor opening can be attributed to its mixed reviews and low traction, despite being one of the most anticipated films of the year. Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha is a musical love story that spans 20 years, from 2002 to 2023, and also stars Jimmy Sheirgill, Shantanu Maheshwari, and Saiee Manjrekar. The movie was postponed from its initial release date of July 5 to avoid clash with boxoffice monster, Kalki 2898 AD which was released on July 27.
In comparison to the films released yesterday, Sudhanshu Saria's spy thriller Ulajh, starring Janhvi Kapoor and Gulshan Devaiah, earned Rs 1.10 crore on its opening day, which is significantly lower than Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha's collection. However, it's worth noting that Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha has still managed to beat Ulajh's collection, despite its poor opening as Ajay and Tabu are much bigger stars.
The film's director, Neeraj Pandey, had high hopes for the movie, stating that Ajay and Tabu were his first choices for the lead roles. However, the movie's poor opening has come as a shock, considering the success of the lead actors' previous collaborations.
