Telangana Theatre Owners Seek Cm Revanth Reddy's Intervention Amidst Crisis Facing dwindling earnings and a struggling film market, over 300 theatre owners in Telangana have drafted a wishlist of demands, hoping to secure the Chief Minister's support and revive their businesses. With the recent box office success of "Kalki" being the exception, the lack of big-hit films has severely impacted their revenue streams.

Uniform Ticket Rates: They advocate for a standardized ticket price of Rs 100 or 150 across the state, arguing that the current practice of inflated rates for star-studded films negatively impacts smaller films.

Extended Theatre Licence Renewal: They request an extension of the renewal period from 3 years to 5 years, citing a change in circumstances since the shorter timeframe was implemented.

Industrial Tariff for Power Bills: Theatre owners are seeking lower electricity rates, similar to those enjoyed by industrial units, to alleviate the financial strain of high power bills.

Permission for Theatre Alterations: Recognizing the need for adaptation, they are requesting permission to modify their theatres to create commercially viable spaces. This could include incorporating food courts, shops, or other retail options to diversify revenue streams.

Vijayender Reddy, president of the Telangana Controllers and Exhibitors Association, confirms these demands and expresses hope for a positive response from the government. He highlights their intention to downsize their seating capacity and incorporate commercial spaces within their theatres, showcasing their proactive approach to survival.

The theatre owners' plight sheds light on the challenges facing the entertainment industry in Telangana. Their meeting with Cm Revanth Reddy could be a pivotal moment, potentially influencing the future of cinema exhibition in the state.
