Bharateeyudu 2 (Indian 2) - What's Behind

Kamal Haasan and Shankar, the dynamic duo behind the iconic 'Bharateeyudu' (Indian), are set to reignite the screen with 'Bharateeyudu 2' (Indian 2), releasing on July 12, 2024. The highly anticipated sequel to the blockbuster that captivated audiences 28 years ago is generating immense excitement among movie lovers. With Shankar's visionary direction and Kamal Haasan's unparalleled charisma, expectations are sky-high. Will 'Bharateeyudu 2' live up to the legacy of its predecessor?

Indian 2 (Bharateeyudu 2) - Story Review

Bharateeyudu 2 (Indian 2) signals the return of freedom fighter Senapathy (Kamal Haasan) to take on the corrupt people and uproot corruption prevalent in the country. Where this leads to when he returns from Taipei from rest of the story. Driven by a passion to fight corruption, Chitra Aravindan (Siddharth) and his friends, including Aarthi (Priya Bhavani Shankar), use their YouTube channel "Barking Dogs" to expose wrongdoing.  Frustrated by their limited impact, Chitra longs for a powerful crusader to tackle the systemic corruption. His thoughts turn to "Indian" aka Senapathy (Kamal Haasan), a legendary figure who fought against corruption two decades prior. Chitra launches the #ComebackIndian campaign, hoping to bring Senapathy back to the fight.

Much to Chitra's surprise, Senapathy returns, setting off a chain reaction that impacts the lives of Chitra's father, Varadarajan (Samuthirakhani), the dedicated CBI officer Pramod (Bobby Simha), the enigmatic Disha (Rakul Preet Singh), the cunning Sakala Kala Vallabhudu (SJ.Suryah), and others. The narrative follows their intertwined destinies as Senapathy's return throws the nation into turmoil.

Kamal Haasan's Indian 2: Artists Review

Kamal Haasan, as always, delivers a committed performance, bringing his signature intensity and charisma to the role.  He strives to elevate the scenes through his expressive body language and screen presence. However, the character itself lacks the depth and power that we've come to expect from him.  His appearance, particularly in certain scenes, unfortunately, generates a sense of unintended humor.

Siddharth delivers a decent performance, showcasing moments of intensity in a few scenes. His performance, however, occasionally feels exaggerated in its mannerisms. Priya Bhavani Shankar and Rakul Preet Singh contribute adequately to their respective roles, with the latter having a limited screen presence. Bobby Simha leaves a mark with his strong performance, while Samuthirakhani delivers a capable portrayal.  SJ.Suryah's performance, while perhaps aiming for comedic effect, falls into the realm of the comical. Brahmananadam, appearing briefly, delivers his usual comedic charm. The rest of the supporting cast performs in accordance with their respective roles.

Shankar's Bharateeyudu 2: Technicians Review

Bharateeyudu 2 (Indian 2) story penned by Shankar once again deals with the rampant corruption and the crusader's fight for the corruption free society. While 'Bharateeyudu2' successfully taps into the familiar themes of corruption and the need for change, the narrative unfortunately follows a predictable path. The initial premise, featuring disillusioned youngsters calling for "Indian" to return, feels somewhat derivative.

The film's second half, while attempting to explore the consequences of "Indian's" return and the subsequent reactions, lacks the emotional depth and soul that defined the original. The narrative meanders aimlessly, presenting a series of vignettes showcasing corruption across India and the impact of "Indian's" actions.

Director Shankar's approach feels somewhat detached, with the storytelling resembling a documentary rather than a compelling narrative. The film struggles to establish a strong emotional connection with the audience, leaving characters underdeveloped and the emotional core lacking.

Anirudh Ravichander's music unfortunately falls short of expectations. The songs fail to leave a lasting impression, and the background score does little to enhance the scenes.

Ravi Varman's cinematography is visually appealing, showcasing lavish settings. However, Sreekar Prasad's editing feels inconsistent, contributing to the documentary-like feel of the narrative. Despite the impressive production values, 'Bharateeyudu' ultimately falls short of its predecessor, lacking the emotional resonance and dramatic impact that made the original so compelling.

Bharateeyudu 2: Advantages

  • Kamal Haasan
  • Making Values

Bharateeyudu 2: Disadvantages

  • Story, Screenplay
  • BGM, Music
  • Artificial Flavor

Bharateeyudu 2 aka Indian 2 (2024): Rating Analysis

Altogether, Bharateeyudu 2 turns out to be predictable emotionless fight against corruption. While 'Bharateeyudu 2' boasts lavish visuals and benefits from Kamal Haasan's star power, it unfortunately falls short in several areas. The film's character development feels underdeveloped, leading to a lack of emotional connection with the audience. Additionally, the way Kamal Haasan's character is presented on screen may disappoint some viewers.

Furthermore, the story, screenplay, and direction fail to reach their full potential, leaving the film feeling somewhat disjointed. When compared to the expectations set by previous works, 'Bharateeyudu' unfortunately pales in comparison.

Considering these elements, Cinejosh awards 'Bharateeyudu 2' a rating of 2 out of 5.
