As the horror-thriller "Longlegs," starring Maika Monroe and directed by Osgood Perkins, prepares for its July 12th release, the duo recently spoke to journalists about the film and their experiences.
While Osgood Perkins admitted to not having watched any Indian films, Maika Monroe expressed her admiration for "RRR," the globally acclaimed action drama directed by S.S. Rajamouli. "I loved 'RRR'," she shared, "It was insane. Oh my god, I was just amazed and blown away." She even recommended it to Perkins, who could catch the film on Netflix.
Monroe further highlighted her appreciation for Dev Patel, who she described as "somewhat mainstream" and "insanely talented." She praised his directorial debut with "Monkey Man," calling it "an incredible directorial debut."
"RRR," which released in 2022, achieved international recognition for its storyline, performances, and music. The song "Naatu Naatu" won an Oscar at the 95th Academy Awards and a Golden Globe. The film starred Ram Charan and Jr NTR, with supporting roles played by Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, and Shriya Saran.
Dev Patel, known for his role in the Oscar-winning "Slumdog Millionaire," made his directorial debut with "Monkey Man" earlier this year.
Monroe also discussed the joys and challenges of playing FBI agent Lee Harker in "Longlegs." She found the experience of embodying an FBI agent fulfilling, having grown up on crime thrillers, and relished wearing her badge on set. However, she acknowledged the difficulty of separating herself from the character, who is quite different from her own personality.
"Longlegs" promises to deliver a chilling horror experience, with the release date set for July 12th. Monroe's insights into her love for Indian cinema and her personal journey with the film add an interesting layer to the anticipation surrounding the release.
