Thalapathy Vijay, the new-gen Superstar of Tamil cinema. Calling him a 'Superstar' might not go well with many but, Vijay with his massive fan following and consistent box office performances of his films has earned the 'Superstar' status. Even his failures are creating opening records stand as an example of how big he grew as a Star. Vijay is not only confined to films he keeps engaging with his fans and encouraging them in whatever way possible. The recent incident of him meeting toppers of 10 and 12th-class students and the amount of time he spent with their families stands as a testament to how deeply he grew in the hearts of the Tamil audience.
Vijay is one of the highest-paid actors in India. Vijay's father Chandrasekhar is a popular director who has also directed films with Chiranjeevi in Telugu. Vijay debuted as a child actor when he was 10 years old. He keep on playing child actor roles till he turns 18 and then started doing films as a hero. He got his first breakthrough with Poove Unakkaga (Subhakankshalu in Telugu) and followed by more than a dozen super-hit films till 2000. Nerukku Ner, Kadhalukku Mariyadhai, Priyamudan, Thulladha Manamum Thullum, Minsara Kanna, and Kushi made him a dear one to the youth audience and attained him star status.
Then post 2000, Vijay started to chose films which further raised his stardom. Ghilli (Okkadu Remake in Tamil). Ghilli created numerous records and the first Tamil film to cross 50 Crs in domestic market. Then the success continued with Pokkiri (Pokiri Remake in Tamil), Thirupaachi (Annavaram in Telugu), Sivakasi became superhits, blockbusters and cemented his position as a raising star in Tamil cinema.
After a series of failures Vijay scored decent successes with Kaavalan, Velayudham and Nanban (3 Idiots Remake). But, his collaboration with director Murugadoss has taken him to a new level. Their first film Thuppakki reintroduced Vijay exploring his full potential and marks new beginning in his career followed by Kaththi in their combination.
Then Vijay joined forces with Director Atlee Kumar where his full potential is tapped by Atlee and delivered consecutive blockbuster with Theri, Mersal, and Bigil. Then Vijay starred in Master directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The film was released post lockdown and became a blockbuster breathing life to movie business. Vijay also did Tamil Telugu bilingual Varisu / Vaarasudu produced and directed by Telugu Producer Dil Raju and Director Vamshi Paidipally and scored a box office success. He was last seen with Lokesh Kanagaraj as LEO which added another boxoffice success to his career despite mixed reviews. Now, he is coming as GOAT, The Greatest Of All Time' in Venkat Prabhus's direction where he played a dual role.
