Shah Rukh Khan has had the best year of his career so far, with his films Jawan and Pathaan both delivering over Rs 1,000 crore worldwide. To continue the momentum his latest outing 'Dunki' is released yesterday, 21 December. Having two all-time blockbusters and helmed by one of the highly successful director Rajkumar Hirani, 'Dunki' poised to open big. But to everyone's surprise, his latest, Dunki, hasn’t been able to create the same sort of buzz upon its release.
Dunki was released in theatres on Thursday, and on its opening day, the film made Rs 30 crore nett domestic. This makes it the year’s seventh-biggest opener after Jawan, Animal, Pathaan, Tiger 3, Gadar 2 and Adipurush. While Jawan opened with Rs 75 crore, even the historic flop Adipurush managed to make Rs 36 crore on its opening day.
Dunki had a solo release on Thursday, but on Friday, the film takes against Prabhas's Salaar, which is being released in multiple languages across the country. Salaar is outpacing Dunki, and will make more than Rs 60 crore on opening day. While Dunki worldwide gross stands around Rs 60 Crores which is low considering the recent track record of SRK and the hero, director combination.
Dunki billed as a saga of friendships, borders, nostalgia for home and love, Dunki is a comedy-drama film based on an illegal immigration technique named 'donkey flight'. The film also features Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, Vikram Kochhar and Anil Grover.
