Rajinikanth... The synonym of super stardom, is turning 73 today. He has been occupying the hearts of millions of fans since the last five decades. Rajinikanth fondly called as Superstar and Thalaivar, not only redefined the meaning of Superstar but also stand as an inspiring example of how to stay grounded even after achieving almost everything any actor or hero dream about. He is being loved by his fans for his down to earth nature despite being one of the biggest boxoffice phenomenon. 

Rajinikanth who was born as Shivaji Rao Gaekwad on December 12, 1950 has worked as a bus conductor in Bengaluru. He was given the name Rajinikanth by his mentor K Balachander who has given him biggest break through with Apoorva Raagangal in 1975. Since then there is no looking back for Rajinikanth. He rose from being a villain to Superstar who has conquered millions of fans. His larger than life roles and magnetic persona has resonated across the world. 

Rajinikanth is one of the few Indian actors who are familiar and loved by foreigners. He enjoys immense fan following in Japan which he earned with Muthu which was the highest grossing Indian film in Japan till recently which is crossed by RRR. Rajini enigma in Telugu started with Baasha. The film has created a huge market in Telugu along with ardent fan following for the Superstar. Followed by Muthu, Arunachalam he has cemented his position in Tollywood. Narasimha has taken his image to a whole new level. 

Rajinikanth's Chandramukhi and Robo even crossed collections if Tollywood 's industry hits in some areas. Kabali opened massive followed by 2.0 which is one of the highest grossers in Telugu that year. Rajinikanth too faced tough time with a series failures with Kala, Petta, Darbar and Annatthe / Peddanna. But, with Jailer Rajinikanth has reclaimed his throne in his own style. Jailer became a resounding hit in Tamil and Telugu garnering Rs 650 Crores worldwide. 

The Thalaivar of boxoffice has now lined up three projects, Laal Salaam where he plays a special role as Mumbai Don directed by his daughter Aishwarya Rajinikanth followed by Thalaivar 170 where he is sharing screen space with Big B Amitabh Bachchan along with Fahadh Faasil and Rana Daggubati. Thalaivar 171 has been announced in the direction of Lokesh Kanagaraj which will go to sets next year.
