Former IPS officer reveals Unknown facts about Sanjay Dutt

Those accustomed to watching crime related Bollywood movies over the decades would know about fake encounter scenes. Generally, the cops in movies kill a criminal or an undertrial in the name of an encounter while transferring him or her from one place to another. It has now come to light that when Sanjay Dutt was completing his jail sentence after being convicted for illegal possession of arms, he feared that the cops might kill him in a fake encounter.

Recently, this was revealed by the former IPS (Indian Police Service) Officer Meeran Chadha Borwankar in her book ‘Madam Commissioner: The Extraordinary Life of an Indian Police Chief’. She was the additional director general of police (prisons) when Dutt was serving his prison sentence.

Borwankar said that Dutt felt that he would be killed in a fake encounter when he was being transferred from Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai to Yerawada Jail in Pune. She said in the book as reported by Indian Express, “Dutt was afraid that he would be killed in an encounter on the way! His fear was so real that he started sweating and complained of having a fever. Meanwhile, news of his move out of Arthur Road Jail was leaked and a huge crowd started to gather outside the prison gates.”

Borwankar also revealed that, “So, we decided to postpone the transfer and withdrew the team that had been deployed. Dutt was counselled against making his shift to Yerawada an issue and it was impressed upon him that his apprehension about an ‘encounter’ was misplaced. Sometime later we were able to quietly and successfully move him and prevented the sober work of judicial custody from becoming a public farce.”

On the professional front, Sanjay Dutt was seen in two biggies this year in the form of the Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan and Vijay starrer Leo. At the box office, both the film's ended up as a major money spinners is a well-established news.
