Director Shankar Shanmugham, known as Shankar is one of the most celebrated director. Though he hails from Kollywood, entire south Indian film industry owned him like their own for his hard-hitting yet highly engaging films blended with commercial elements. There were many talented directors in South during 90's reinventing cinema. But, Shankar redefined commercial cinema which is the life line of The Cinema in our country. He is the first director who made use of world class VFX for a regional film. The way he visualise his films has made Indian Cinema thinking about larger than life Cinema with humongous sets and cutting edge CGI.

The way Shankar blends serious societal issues with cinematic aspects and narrating complex aspects in understandable manner reflects his genius as a director. He started his journey as a director with Gentleman starring Arjun. Shankar has announced his arrival grandly with a blockbuster. Gentleman deals with donations in education system. Then he moved to a love story, Kadhalan / Premikudu where a normal constable's son fall for Governor's daughter.

Then he made Indian / Bharatheeyudu with Kamal Haasan about corruption and scored a blockbuster. His next film, Jeans is again a love story dealing with emotions between twins. It was made lavishly and is the costliest film in his career by that time. Then he collaborated agin with Arjun for Mushalavan / Oke Okkadu and delivered a run away hit. To everyone's surprise Shankar made Boys with newcomers Siddharth, Genilia, Bharath, Thaman, Manikandan in lead roles. The film depicts the lifestyle and goals of youth. 

Shankar's next, Anniyan / Aparichitudu with Vikram created sensation all over south Indian and became a big hit. Then he joined hands with Rajinikanth for most expensive films made in India for Shivaji : The Boss and Enthiran / Robo. Both films became huge blockbusters. After gigantic success of Enthiran Shankar made remake of 3 Idiots as Nanban / Snehithudu with Vijay. His next film is I with Vikram and made 2.0 on a grand scale with Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar as villain. 

Now Shankar is coming with sequel to his blockbuster Indian, as Indian 2 with Kamal Haasan and Game Changer with Ram Charan. Both the films have social issues as themes which is Shankar's forte.
