Vishwaroopam Review

In the Movie Vishwaroopam: Bharatha Natyam Dance Master Vishwanath (Kamal Hasan) and Nuclear Oncologist Dr. Nirupama (Pooja Kumar) are an odd pair struggling to make their marital life in New York. When Nirupama hires a private detective to find one flaw in Vishwanath to quote as a perfect reason to get divorced, story begins to climb on new edge where it is revealed that Vishwanath has a shocking flashback related to Terrorism in Afghanistan. Then there is terrorist Omar (Rahul Bose), handling a militant outfit planned a nuclear bomb blast in New York. Who is Vishwanath and what is his connection with Al-Qaeda? How is the terror plot of Omar connected with Vishwanath? All these forms the rest.

Values of the Movie Vishwaroopam: The core and only driving force for this entire project is screen presence of Kamal Hasan. Without him, this could have been a flop experience. When Kamal called this as his dream project, obviously we expect something very new and innovative. However, Kamal missed it completely in execution with a weak screenplay and sluggish direction. Cinematography of Sanu Verghese is top notch catching the excellent rugged badland topography of Afghanistan. Sanu made the flick a visual spelndor. Mahesh Narayanan's editing was a mediocre work which required several trimmings in both first and second halves. Music by Shankar Ehsan Loy was reverbarating in background. FInally, its the production values of Raj Kamal Films and PVP Cinema which are on par with Hollywood.

Perfomrance wise, we cannot find even minutest of mistake in Kamal's portrayal of three shades (Bharatha Natyam dancer, Terrorist Trainer and Raw Agent). He cake-walked each in his natural style leaving audience spellbound. Pooja Kumar offered an impressive show in a not so useful character but she can be a handy artist for creative directors. Andrea Jeremiah as student of Kamal has little importance. There is a lot of pain and depth in character of Rahul Bose whose performance can be certainly called refreshing. While Jaideep Ahlawat is handsome, Sekhar Kapoor, Naazar and others were apt for their roles.

Out of the Movie Vishwaroopam: More than the way Terrorism plot is handled, Kamal has shown the courage in picking this contemporary subject which has certain element of controversy with in itself. In contrast, we cannot find even a single scene which has something wrong to interpret or lead to unnecessary disputes in the name of religion. But, plenty of drawbacks when lied in the script, narration cannot go smooth with commotion. This is the area where 'Vishwaroopam' fails to thrill the audience.

In comparison, second half is far better than first. Of course, there are boring episodes here and there to bar. Overall, 'Vishwaroopam' has got the hype which is unworthy with the final output which we see on screen. Kamal Hasan is always victorious as an actor. Even as a technician, he is visionary but this film will remain only as a half successful attempt. Commercially, 'Vishwaroopam' might run to the acceptance of metros but in B & C, the content is a bouncer.
