Behind the Movie Traffic: A proven subject in Tamil is now dubbed into Telugu. Earlier, there was a concept based film ‘Journey’ based on accident and now this movie seems of belonging to the same genre. Let us see, will there be any Traffic Jam?
In the Movie Traffic: Story begins with a gang of young tapori guys on bikes teasing and chasing a girl in car. At a traffic junction, this car rams into public waiting to cross the signal.
Here comes the introduction to different characters with diverse life styles and how they are connected to this accident. They are:
Star hero Gautham (Prakashraj) who did not have any time to spend for family (wife Radhika and daughter).
Karthik (Sachin), a budding TV anchor joining a channel to take the first assignment of interviewing Gautham. He is in love with beautiful girl (Parvathi Menon).
Constable Sathya Murthy (Cheran), dismissed from duty caught in bribe is rejoining.
Dr Robin (Prasanna) is in the romantic mood of celebrating first wedding anniversary with wife (Iniya), who is already running an extra marital affair with Robin’s friend.
On the accident spot, Karthik gets seriously injured and shifted to Hospital in critical condition. When the chances of survival are extremely dim, parents agree for transplantation of Karthik’s heart to Gautham’s daughter struggling for life in Kodada. The heart has to be transported to Kodada in 90 minutes on road is the mission allotted to Sathya Murthy, Dr Robin and a friend of Gautham. They begin the journey in Endeavour SUV with minute to minute tracking of senior police officer Sundar (Sharath Kumar).
All of the sudden, they lose contact with Sathya Murthy. Who did it? What is Robin’s role in this mission? Did they perform the heart transplantation on time? How did Star Hero Suriya Fans help?
Values & Out of the Movie Traffic: When you look at this kind of a story line, it looks non sense, confusing and missing in conviction. When a strong screenplay is prepared, then a movie like ‘Traffic’ is delivered. Hats Off, to this enormously gripping screenplay of Bobby Sanjay and Ajayan Bala which is translated to magic of sorts on screen by director Shahid Kader. Entire second half and exclusively the climax portions with Suriya Fans into the game, narration graph takes a high pitch. Shehnad Jalal’s camera work is awesome and superbly augmented with Mahesh Narayanan’s editing. Never the less background score of Mejo Joseph is also inspiring. Production wise, Radan Media and Bhimavaram Talkies have delivered a quality product.
Analyzing the performances, Prakash Raj as usual lives into the character along with Radhika. Show stealers are definitely Cheran and Prasanna who lifted the spirit. As a struggling husband in frustration, Prasanna did well. Sharath Kumar too was superior. Parvathi Menon is cute and Iniya is hot. Never to mention, the heart touching sentiment scenes on JP and Lakshmi Ramakrishnan, parents to Karthik closed the film on a pinching note.
For audiences who just love watching well written scripts and technically effectively narrated stories on screen with a message to take home, ‘Traffic’ is for you. Although movie starts on a low pace with story going no where, it picks momentum once the threads start getting interwoven. That is the specialty where in one incident of accident is banded together with multiple stories. Twists, Turns and Thrills being made a part of this less than 2 hours duration, ‘Traffic’ surely leaves an impression on audience minds. As I did not watch the original Malayalam version or a remade Tamil version except this dubbed Telugu version, I felt of appreciating director Shahid Kader for offering such a wonderful suspense film with high emotional quotient.
