Behind the Movie Tommy: Natakireeti Rajendra Prasad is one hero who is picking the right roles matching his age. This is one more film from him with Dog Tommy playing from front. Directed by Raja Vannem Reddy, let us see what is this film all about?
In the Movie Tommy: Story begins with introduction of Vishwam Master (Rajendra Prasad), a lecturer at JIMS Engineering College. He shuttles daily from Narasapuram to College. One fine day, he comes across a pet at Narasapuram Railway station and decides to adopt it. Despite opposition from wife (Seetha), Vishwam makes Tommy a family member. Slowly, Tommy gels well with Vishwam, his wife and daughter. It becomes the daily duty of Tommy to give send-off for Vishwam at railway station and pick him up by 5 PM. As the story sails off smoothly, Vishwam Master dies with a heart stroke. Lovely dog Tommy cannot understand reality. It continues to wait for Vishwam Master for 12 long years visiting same Railway station daily before succumbs to death with old age.
Values & Out of the Movie Tommy: Story of Tommy is prepared based on a real life incident. When relations between human beings are ruled with selfish motives, dogs are the best alternatives to shower with undying loyalty. Ex MP Hari Rama Jogayya and Raja Vannem Reddy definitely served us a tale with plenty of feel good and heart touching emotions. All the episodes shot between Rajendra Prasad and Tommy stood best portions in film. Especially, the last 15 minutes of climax is a tear jerker. Raja Vannem Reddy brought in lot of sentimental depth by bringing Tommy very close to us. He is a winner in this part. Rajendra Kumar dialogues also worked decently. Mohan Chand captured the local beauty of Narasapuram. Editing by Nandamuri Hari is a conventional work. Late Chakri’s re-recording and BGM are heart-warming. Production values of China Babu and Hari Babu are modest.
On performance front, none other than Rajendra Prasad could have fit into character. Whole drama between dog and RP looked authentic only because of RP. Three dogs (I think) used in sync with age were well trained. To highlight, the old one touches the hearts. Seetha as RP’s wife and those artists who have done daughter and son-in-law were also fine. LB Sreeram as Tea shop owner and Surya as Station Master stole the show in pre climax. Rest showed their presence.
Tommy is a clean and neatly shot film targeted at children and family audience. There is a simple and straight message which will be loved by animal lovers. On drawbacks side, screenplay has nothing great and predictable scenes in second half are still driven to safe shores by Tommy. The old-age romance between RP and Seetha could have been safely avoided. Commercially, average or below average result doesn’t matter for makers because the effort was meant more of personal satisfaction. If you are willing to cry your hearts out, try this one.
Cinejosh Verdict of Tommy: A Tear Jerker.
