The End Review

Behind the Movie The End: Suspense and Horror Thrillers is currently the new found trend for Telugu film makers. MAA TV Short film contest winner Rahul Sankrityan tried the same genre. Let us see, how good is his beginning?

In the Movie The End: Story takes off with introduction of Rajeev Mathews (Sudheer Reddy), rich software professional occupying a new farm house in outskirts along with wife Priya (Pavani Reddy). In no time, a woman mason on civil work at the farm house accidentally falls into the swimming pool and dies. Meanwhile, Rajeev’s friend Dr Goutham (Yuva Chandra) lands in Hyderabad and falls in love with Priya’s friend Rekha (Ghazal Somaiah). 

While Dr Goutham and Rekha are in Goa with a professional assignment, they hear shocking news of Rajeev being admitted in hospital suffering with hyper tension and thrombosis. Goutham travels back to city only to know that Priya’s body is occupied by evil spirits and Rajeev is facing hell out of a situation in farm house. Goutham, Rajeev try to counsel Priya. In a moment of rage, Rajeev kills Priya when she attacks on Goutham. Her dead body preserved in swimming pool goes missing. New challenge before Goutham and Rajeev is to save them-selves from devil Priya. Finally, a shocking twist changes the entire focus of movie with Rajeev’s death.

Values & Out of The Movie The End: Evil soul haunting a group of people living in a distantly thrown bungalow is the primary premise on which many directors are exploiting. Rahul tested the same formula with friendship, betrayal and romance as additional ingredients. There is a decent storyline in the film and Rahul succeeds in bluffing the viewers through out with a screenplay full of conviction. Viewers are left in a big deadlock on where is the deadbody and what is it trying to do with Rajeev. However, major drawback is a boring screenplay with overtly pulled scenes. Instead of throwing chills at audience, Rahul created a drowsy mood with sluggish narration. Direction wise, ‘The End’ would be a better movie if Rahul dealt this as a short film rather than 2+ hours of exhaustion. Writing wise, there are a couple of good lines which do not need a special mention. Praveen Vanamali’s Photography is below average with lot of frames missing in fundamentals. Overall, camera work is inferior in quality for a horror movie. Editing is also quite poor in quality. Vamsi and Hari music is also mundane. Production standards are down and out.

On performance front, Sudheer Reddy is the show stealer with entire plot revolving around him. Both as a frustrated husband and confused in mental disorder, he imparted a worthwhile solidarity into the film. Yuva Chandra also did a decent job. Pavani Reddy did not have much to do except walking on the stairs or sitting on plinth wall or swimming pool. Ghazal Somaiah is left to air. Among the rest, the artist who has done fake police officer was fine. Nalla Venu did well as watchman to spread some fun.

‘The End’ has those couple of legitimate horror moments which we generally see in all RGV films. Difference is RGV is failing to deliver even those moments while Rahul did so. For these movies, sound effects play the pivot and Audiography isn’t a master class work here. Story takes off on a dull note and gets picked up only in middle when Gautham comes to back to see a suffering Priya. Pre interval blocks offered something new and interesting followed by a proper interval. Second half suffers with staleness. Viewers are tested in patience with unessential and lengthy scenes eating the time away.

Climax twist is though expected by few of the clever audience, yet it can be approved. All in all, ‘The End’ is an average show with no big highlights to point at.
