Bollywood superstar Salman Khan who is known to score blockbusters on Eid is coming with Sikandar teaming with Murugadoss known for creative action entertainers. Sikandar OTT rights are bagged for a fancy sum by Netflix. The film hit the screens on 30 March 2025 and let us see what impact he created as Sikandar.
Sikandar story is all about an kind hearted man who is revered by one and all in his region and the shocking developments in his personal and professional journey.
Sanjay Rajkot aka Sikandar aka Raja Saab (Salman Khan) is the most revered and adored in his region and lives a happy life with his wife Rani Sahiba Saisri (Rashmika Mandanna) but shocking developments rocks the lives of him and those surrounding him.
Where this leads to and how it is related to Minister Pradhan (Sathyaraj), his son Arjun (Prateik Babbar), Encounter Specialist Prakash (Kishore) and others form the rest of the developments.
Salman Khan is known for his impactful and powerful performances. However much to the shock and disappointment of all, he just passed through the motions. He looked completely disconnected and even failed to come up with basic expressions. He didn't even perform stunts in an energetic manner.
Rashmika Mandanna is ok with her role. But she didn't get much scope to show her acting talent. The chemistry between Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna didn't make any impact.
Kajal Agarwal got an inconsequential role. Sathyaraj played a typical role with full of monotony. There is nothing much for him to do as any other actor could have done the role.
Sharman Joshi is ok and same is the case with Prateik Babbar. Jatin Sarna evoked few laughs on the screen. Others performed according to their roles.
Sikandar story penned by A.R. Murugadoss is all about a influential kind hearted man who goes all out for the people who trusted him. Murugadoss came up with an emotional action entertainer featuring husband and wife. Those who expected an out and out action packed entrainer from Salman will be completely disappointed.
Right from the start till the finish, the screenplay travels on a predictable trope offering no real twists and turns. The routine and monotonous elements in the narration ended up testing the patience of the movie lovers. Murugadoss story has many scenes that resembled many scenes from earlier films. The screenplay followed a linear pattern. In Telugu teen years back film named Anasuya with similar backdrop came with Ravi Babu and Bhumika in lead roles.
People are left to wonder how come Murugadoss after taking three years time came with such outdated story and how Salman Khan gave green singal to the project. When the film ends, viewers will have a sigh of relief.
The music tuned by Pritam turned out to be pretty ordinary. The songs failed to register among viewers. As expected the chemistry between Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna on screen looked extremely odd. The background music of Santosh Narayanan failed completely. It didn't sync with well the storyline.
The Cinematography of Thirunavukarasu turned out to be pretty average. He is known add value with his Cinematography but this time he failed completely.Vivek Harshan's editing left a lot to be desired. There are many repetitive scenes that slowed the pace of the narration. But he couldn't be faulted as the story turned out to be weak. Production values are ok.
Altogether, Sikandar turns out to be outdated emotional entertainer. Murugadoss turned out to be high on emotions and low on action. The trailer and teaser sent different signals and movie lovers feel they are taken for a ride.
Salman just passed through the motions and so did others and Murugadoss thought that bringing people to theatres promising action entertainer and giving message on organ donations and others will turn the film into a hit but all this came for nothing as the plan backfired completely due to weak story, script, screenplay and direction and out and out cringe elements.
Considering all these aspects, Cinejosh goes with a 2 rating for Sikandar.
