Behind the Movie Saleem: Vishnuvardhan Babu, the young hero who is ranked last in today’s genre of young heroes is struggling hard with his career after successful “Dhee”. YVS Chowdary, after shaping “Okka Magaadu” into a damn failure is packed up for nearly one and half year. With the combination of these two, one would generally expect a dumb movie, but spicy Ileana along with versatile artist Mohanbabu’s presence in “Saleem” and being made on prestigious “Laxmi Prasanna” banner as their 50th movie with highest budget ever on this banner has raised too many expectations on this movie.
After a long wait of nearly one and half year, the movie has hit the theatres.
In the Movie Saleem: Movie starts in a village where Satya (Ileana), the beautiful yet a brainless daughter of Singamanaidu (Nepolean) lands from Europe. Satya is brought up in Europe for the reason that Singamanaidu has an ardent enemy in Appalanaidu (Mukesh Rishi), whose only aim is to vanish the family of Singamanaidu. Our hero Munna (Vishnu), an orphan saves Satya from the attack of Appalanaidu and wins the love of this big family of Satya and Singamanaidu and even settles down there.
The aim of Munna is to get his girl Satya into love and then marry her. As, per the regular movie ishtyle here comes the time that Satya and Munna express their love to each other. With in this mean time, Singamanaidu plans Satya’s marriage with family member of Appalanaidu but Munna kills them. Do you know, this was all a trap by Satya to get eloped with her love Krish (Venkat) and she flies to Bangkok with attraction on Krish, who is the brother of Mafia Don and Gangster Ogirala Joginatham shortly OJO (Mohanbabu).
Munna now lands in Bangkok and bashes the goons of OJO. When OJO and Munna come face to face, OJO shakes for the reason that Munna is none other then Saleem, the gangster who made OJO to suffer with sleepless nights. What happened later? Did Munna a.k.a Saleem win the love of Satya and clear her eyes by showing the differences between love and attraction? What happened to OJO? form the rest of the story.
Values of the Movie Saleem: The lavish taking, rich frames, costly costumes, thrilling action sequences…over all you may find money poured everywhere by Mohanbabu and Laxmi Prasanna banners except on the story, screenplay and direction. The story was so confusing and unbearable that audience try to pull their hairs for nothing sin they have made except purchasing the ticket for 50 to 100 Rs. Screenplay was so absurd that your senses go awry and start thinking non sense. Even Direction, sorry it can be called as direction less. Sandeep Chowtha’s music sounds good for one or two songs among the lot of nearly half a dozen. Ram Prasad’s work was great but for illogical action sequences and worthless family drama. Editing by Kotagiri was beautiful (If he has come out with this three hour logicless and brainless movie…think about the torture he faced in editing).
Vishnuvardhan as Saleem and Munna had improved in all the departments. Vishnu looked handsome with his lean look in stylish costumes. Vishnu changed his entire get up for Saleem and it looked worth. Ileana was present in the movie fulfilling the glamour part and watching this beauty on the screen with shortest of short dresses is an eye feaster. Mohan babu as OJO is the role that may come under scrutiny. Many viewed that, why did he choose this role which has enough adult contented dialogues which may even hurt the sentiments of ladies, exclusively when dealing with the scenes with English teacher Kaveri Jha. Comedy part by Ali as a choreographer looked good early but became rotten later. Raghubabau as side kick to Mohan babu looked as usual. Remaining all the cast were just normal.
Out of the Movie Saleem: After coming with a disaster “Okka Magaadu,” one would expect that YVS Chowdary would have changed his trend but he follows the same legacy even with “Saleem.” Neither story, nor script nor direction YVS Chowdary looks to have forgotten the basics in every department. However he was successful in destroying the career of Vishnu totally and helping Mohan Babu to prove a point that he still has the stuff in him to even act in love story movies with his young and stylish look. Although technically, movie fared well…but inefficient story, errata script and punchless dialogues made the movie to suffer badly. Mohan babu has shown the taste of a worst failure to Reliance with their first movie in Tollywood.
Cinejosh verdict of the Movie Saleem: Hey Saleem…this is our Salaam. You taught me how to bear the pain with patience. “Dummu Repaadu”…”Mana Thuppu Lepaadu, Thokka Teesaadu”.
(I reviewed this Saleem after reviewing Katha for the day. Iam very sorry that if any mistakes occurred or anything said in less about “Saleem”, it is all the result of my loss of memory and thinking power with both of these pot boilers)
