BEHIND THE MOVIE 'RAKSHASUDU': Suriya has good success track record among the Tamil heroes in Telugu states. He has a couple of super hits through his Telugu dubbed films. However, his recent ventures could not show any impact at Tollywood's box office. In this scenario, his new movie 'Rakshasudu' was released on May 29. Let's see how well Suriya succeeded in this attempt.

STORY: Madhusudhan aka Masss( Suriya) is a con man and thief who runs a small gang of friends who include Jet( Premji Amaran). Masss falls in love with a nurse, Malini( Nayantara). Having known she is desperately in an urgent need of money, Suriya promises her to provide the money. While implementing his strategy to arrange money to her, he meets with a road accident. When gets into conscious, he acquires some magical powers through which he is able to see souls who are in unrest. The souls invoke him to quench their unfulfilled wishes. In return he seeks help from them to earn easy money by cheating people. In the meanwhile, he meets with a spirit which exactly looks like him. The soul has a hidden motive in encountering with Suriya. What is that motive? Does Suriya fulfill the wishes of all souls including special soul? Does he marry his lady love? Watch the movie on big screen.

ARTISTS PERFORMANCE: It can be regarded as the one man show of Suriya. His sterling performance makes you sitting in the chairs even for the boring moments.The amalgam of class and mass mixed performance in Mass and Siva roles were apt to the script. Nayanatara's performance can hardly be analysed as she has less screen presence. Premji Amaran was active in performance. Pranitha was offered a cameo role and she has done justice to her character in the movie. Partheepan, Samudra Khani and others fit the bill. Brahmanandam is seen in two to three scenes and generated good laughs.

TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT: Yuvan Shankar Raja rendered terrific background score but failed to impress music lovers in providing melodious songs. Rajasekhar's cinematography was felicitous. Praveen's editing in the first was nice while in the second half it should have been better. Dialogues by Shashank and Selva's action sequences are flawless.

PROS:

* Suriya

* Horror comedy genre for a star hero

* First half

* Interval bang

* Production values

CONS:

* Poor/No love track between hero and heroine

* Songs

* Flashback

ANALYSIS: Except a couple of boring moments, the director has been succeeded in canning the movie. It was a racy screen play in the first half, while it was dragged in the second half. However, the director hit the nail on head inducting all much needed elements to make the movie the best commercial potboiler. He didn't fall on his own sword manipulating anything. The only thing which is said to be setback is that the lengthy run time of the movie. Had it been limited to 150 minutes, it would have been far better product. A fast beat number shot on Suriya and Nayan should have been placed as the last song instead of end credits of the movie.

FATE OF THE MOVE: At the box office front, the movie gets good openings due to Suriya's image and the powerful title, which is also Megastar Chiranjeevi's popular film's title. Since there is no proper opposition to impress mass audiences, the makers can take the advantage of it going on aggressive promotions.

CINEJOSH VERDICT OF RAKSHASUDU: This Rakshasudu will not kill you, but thrills you.
