The film's OTT rights are yet to be inked and its streaming will be done after the completion of its theatrical run. Let us find out what Konaseema Thugs offered to movie lovers.
Konaseema Thugs story is about a youngster who lands in jail due to an influential person and how he plans to escape and live peacefully. Seshu (Hridhu Haroon) finds himself in Kakinada jail and through other inmates, Dora (Bobby Simha), Madhu (Munishkanth), and others hatch a plan to escape. Why Seshu land in jail, did he manage to escape from the jail, did he meet his lover Koyila (Anaswara Rajan) and why Peddi Reddy is after him, and whether Jailer Arogya Raj allowed him to have his way from the rest of the story.
Hridhu Haroon came up with a natural performance. She showed good expressions as a wronged person sent to jail by an influential persona. His body language is good and showed innocence in his dialogues. To reach the next level, Hridhu Haroon can work on his dialogue delivery and expressions. Bobby Simha turned out to be the livewire. He elevated the scenes with his screen presence. He performed well and though there are not many dialogues, he made it up with his expressions and the intensity in his eyes.
Anaswara Rajan performed her role well. As she played the role of a dumb character, she did not get chance to deliver any dialogues. Munishkanth, RK.Suresh, Sarath Appani, PL.Thenappan performed according to their roles. All came up with natural performances.
Konaseema Thugs story selected by Brinda Gopal is interesting and intriguing. Brinda however started the story in a slow manner and narrated it in such a way that viewers do not get confused. But this in turn made viewers restless as nothing much happens in the first half except for the viewers knowing why Seshu and Dora landed in jail. The story picks up pace only ahead of the interval with the hatching of the escape plan. A couple of scenes in the first half generate interest but most of it ends up testing the patience of the viewers. The interval block increases interest over the second half.
The second half turns extremely serious and the escape plan is shown in an interesting manner. The story of Konaseema Thugs is well known as it is the remake of a Malayalam film and those who watched Hollywood action thrillers do not find it exciting. But others get interested a little bit in the second half and compared to the first half, the second half is racy.
The screenplay picks up the pace and the action scenes increase the interest levels. But at times, repetitive scenes creep in, bringing down the intensity. The story finally ends on the expected lines. Brinda's screenplay is good and the direction is ok. The realistic treatment of the story appeals to all. Brindha should be complimented for not deviating from the story in the name of commercial elements, comedy and romance.
Sam CS music is just ok. Songs are just situational and do not make much impact. However, he elevated the scenes with his thumping background music. Priyesh Gurusamy's cinematography is rich, natural, and realistic. He showed the jail scenes in a realistic manner and night shots in a captivating way. The stunt choreography is good and the action blocks are natural. Dialogues are ok and the editing of Praveen Antony could have been better. There are many repetitive scenes that dragged the pace of the film. Riya Shibu who bankrolled the film on HR Pictures maintained good production values.
Altogether, Konaseema Thugs turns out to be a time-pass thriller. Brinda Gopal, on her second attempt, chose a completely different story and she tried to attract all with her screenplay and direction. She partially succeeds in her attempts and had the screenplay been racy and repetitive scenes done away with, Konaseema Thugs would have given a more powerful kick. Considering all these aspects Cinejosh goes with a 2 rating for Konaseema Thugs.
