King of Kotha Telugu Movie: What's Behind

Dulqer Salmaan is known for his versatile performances and his film King of Kotha is generating immense interest. The film is directed by Dulqer's friend Abhilash Joshiy and already the film's teasers and trailers promised an action packed feast. The film's OTT rights are bagged by Disney+Hotstar and OTT streaming will be after the end of its theatrical run. King of Kotha (Telugu): Story Review

King of Kotha story is all about a city embroiled in gruesome crimes and what forced a person hailed as King to return from exile and eliminate the gangsters. 

CI Shahul Hassan ( Prasanna) goes to Kotha on transfer and he finds that the city is ruled by the drug lord Kanna( Shabeer Kallarakkal). Even with his best efforts, he couldn't control the drug mafia. In the midst of all this, Shahul comes to know about Raju (Dulqer Salmaan) who left the city for some unknown reason. 

Why Raju left Kotha and will he return to the city, what is his collection to Kanna, Tara( Aishwarya Lekshmi), Ritu ( Anikha Surendran),Manju( Nyla Usha), form the rest of the developments.

King of Kotha (2023) Movie: Artists Review

Dulqer Salmaan supporter slipped into the role quite well. He showed good expressions and emotions showcasing his versatility in different situations. Dulqer tried to carry the film on his shoulders single-handedly like a one man army. But no real intense elements, turned it into an average one.

Aishwarya Lekshmi played a female lead but she got limited screen presence. Shabeer Kallarakkal performed well in his role and he looked wicked and Menacing. Prasanna looked well and made his presence felt. Others performed according to their roles. 

King of Kotha Movie: Technicians Review

King of Kotha story readied by Abhilash Joshiy is so about two gangsters fighting for supremacy and cops using them against each other to eliminate both. The story starts in a routine but interesting manner. What surprises all is Dulqer Salmaan's entry will be only after 20 minutes. The narration goes in a predictable way but the slow pace ends up testing the patience of all. 

Director maintained the same tempo in the second half also and the repetitive Scenes along with lack of twists make viewers feel that the actors despite their performances are just passing through the motions. 

The music of Jakes Bejoy and Shaan Rahman scored the music. Couple of songs are ok. The BGM of Jakes Bejoy is thumping. It elevated the scenes to another level. He used various instruments to give terrific impact on the screen.

Nimish Ravi's Cinematography is excellent. He showed camera angles and used the colours in such a way to depict the 80s and 90s atmosphere in a realistic and natural way. 

Shyam Sashidharan's editing left a lot to be desired. He left many drags making viewers wonder what's wrong with him. This impacted the film in a negative way. The film's production values are grand and technical values are sound.

Altogether, King of Kotha is a routine gangster drama. Abhilash Joshiy, friend of Dulqer turned director with this film. He tried to elevate Dulqer Salmaan's heroism in a gangster drama. However, predictable story, Screenplay and direction played the spoil sport. The slow narration is in such a way that the proceedings give a never ending feeling. Even Dulqer Salmaan's screen presence failed to power the film. Considering all these aspects, Cinejosh goes with a 1.5 Rating for King of Kotha.
