Behind the Movie Chitram Kadu Nijam: A hit horror film in Kannada shot with real footage from a group of friends lost in fatal trekking accident is edited cinematically to be presented before us. Let us see, what is this fact based film all about?

In the Movie Chitram Kadu Nijam: On October 23rd 2010, a group of six friends Ramesh, Naveen, Nallodu, Pakshi Prakash, Deepa and Soumya belonging to Karnataka begin their adventurous trekking journey into lush green hilly-forested track to reach an undisclosed destination of mountain top. On the trip, Prakash falls sick on day one while rest of five continues. Evil forces chase them en-route creating horror moments. Ramesh being a professional cameraman working for movies, capture each and every strange moment in HD camera. They successfully reach the destination but none of them returned back. While three of them are confirmed dead, two are registered in missing case. Are there any evil spirits in the journey?

Values & Out of the Movie Chitram Kadu Nijam: To begin with, for a film that is promoted as true footage film shot in real life, there are many questions on faking and disjointed scenes. The idea might be new (inspired from Hollywood’s The Blair Witch Project) to make a horror film on found footage of a missing group or person. But the existence of evil souls in forest making terrible murmuring sounds used to create spooky moments are a clear indication of commercial editing. As Good Cinema Group called it true footage, believing or unbelieving the statement is left to individual’s interest. Super natural stories are always quite interesting to hear. If at all, there is a director behind this film then he/she needs to be appreciated for mixing the original footage with artificially created episodes.

Big boulder stone falling on trekker tent, beverages bag catching fire, Ramesh packing a skull in bag, a slapped hand mark on Ramesh back, Nallodu hitting his head to tree, Deepa killing Naveen before slashing her throat with knife created are some of the horror scenes meant to scare the viewers. Definitely, the film being shot in Karnataka backdrop with artists from same location, there was a terrible miss of nativity, dialogues and characteristic behavior.

If the incident is considered as true, then the argument is whether it happened in one night or three to four nights. Aren’t there any mobile phones, still cameras or which battery did Ramesh use in his HD camera to lit the light and shoot for three continuous days. Yet, it is an interestingly edited movie shot in least budget to guarantee best profits, if commercial verdict matters the most.

All in all, ‘Chitram Kadu Nijam’ is hard to believe as a true footage film. However, the experiment needs to be appreciated because only in very few portions audiences are prone to introspection. Well, the basic confusing fact Late Ramesh wanted to underline from the flick is there are evil spirits wandering in this hilly trekking area and forest department is reported to have closed this route for no more adventures.

Box Office wise, there will be some section of takers who just love horror films with realistic treatment shall queue up at theaters.
