Behind the Movie Brahma Lokam To Yama Lokam: After a hiatus comedy king Rajendra Prasad seen on the posters of this movie as Lord Brahma, hero Shivaji getting back into his comfort zone after disastrous ‘Taj Mahal,’ Sonia aka Shravs of ‘Happy Days’ trying for a heroine image, bumper lady Aarthi Agarwal’s erotic show and an interesting socio fantasy subject expected. These are few of the attention grabbing factors for this Brahma Lokam to Yama Lokam Via Bhoo Lokam which has arrived in theatres today. Let us see, on which Lokam do audience land after watching this?
In the Movie Brahma Lokam To Yama Lokam: Movie starts directly in ‘Satya Lokam’ where Lord Brahma (Rajendra Prasad) is busy writing the fates (Thala Raathalau) of new born population. During a weak moment, Brahma is vexed up with his married life after a small fight with wife Saraswathi (Kalyani). Result is that Brahma writes up the fate of a new born girl on earth to die as soon as she enters into married life. A shift of focus and now come to our earth as this girl grows up.
Srinu (Shivaji), studying degree from last five years falls in love with collegemate Swetha (Sonia), who has a villain brother-in-law. In parallel is the story of Srinu’s friend Shobhan Babu (Venu Madhav) struggling for first night with his wife (Jyothi) due to his rebel aunty (Shakuntala). Shohan Babu in order to win in the first night, performs penance for Lord Brahma and wins a bowl of milk as a boon, drinking upon which could offer him the power of reading the fate of others. Situations turn up in a way that, Srinu drinks this milk instead of Shobhan Babu and acquires the power of reading the future of others.
Srinu uses this power very frequently saving the lives of people thus becoming an obstacle to Lord Yama (Jayaprakash Reddy) and Chitragupta (AVS) in performing their duties. Knowing this Aadi Para Shakthi (Laya) orders Brahma, Yama and Chitragupta to get back onto earth and find Srinu to take back the power. Brahma uses beauties of Rambha (Aarthi Agarwal) as a weapon to woo Srinu but fails.
Finally Srinu agrees with Brahma to resolve his power only after marriage with Swetha. Here comes the twist, Swetha is none other than the same girl who would die soon after the marriage. How did Srinu tackle with Brahma and Yama to win the life of Swetha forms the climax.
Values of the Movie Brahma Lokam to Yama Lokam: Rajendra Prasad as Lord Brahma, the creator is one of the major assets for this film. Though he had very short role yet the CG work done to show four heads is commendable. Once again RP gives settled performance and his body language steals the show. Next Shivaji has done the role of Srinu with ease and nothing to mention in special about his performance. Sonia was an odd pair with Shivaji and she is not the beauty who can be beared for two hours. Venu Madhav generated enough laughs and he has got a lengthy and key character in entire movie. Aarthi Agrwal has got a spicy role where she tried to show her oomph in enough doses but again it was raw. Jayaprakash Reddy as Yama scored marks for his dance rather than action. Remaining AVS, Pragathi, MS Narayana, Jyothi, Shakuntala, Raghu Babu, Kausha were handled well.
G. Nageshwara Rao’s story picking was innovative. None in Tollywood tried it from Brahma’s angle. Screenplay was very weak and doesn’t offer any importance to keep the feel alive in the movie. More of the time, Nageshwara Rao’s dialogues and direction bothered to utilise the casting well rather than making them to create an impact on the story. In the process, he overdosed the adult comedy and double meaning dialogues making the audience to get the feel of a B grade sex movie. CG work requires a mention and Nageshwara Rao has shown the way how even medium budgeted movies can better use these graphics. Music by Srilekha is routine including the back ground. Camerawork by Vasu was impressive only in dealing with divine characters. Editing by Nagi Reddy was good as he dealt a very lengthy story with ease. Production values of Utopia Productions were inconsistent.
Out of the Movie Brahma Lokam to Yama Lokam: Telugu audience have seen enough socio fantasies revolving around Lord Yama (Yama Donga, Yama Gola, Yama Leela and so on) but here is the story which connects through a path from Lord Brahma to Yama via Earth and that’s too big for a story. That is why, Director has concentrated more on story and comedy missing to offer a feel and loosing the characterisations.
Adult comedy with characters like Jyothi (Naaku Ikkada Mood Pothundi), Kausha (Ten Minutes Time Isthe Pani Kaanichchestha), Aarthi Agarwal (Akkada Kaadu Noppi Inkaa Paiki Raa) was disgusting in a story dealing with divine characters. Name of ‘Kalamandir’ repeating again and again was not a quality impression. Love thread between Shivaji and Sonia was pathetic and Sonia looked sinful.
First haf was just a time pass with boring love track and building the conflict, second was more wasted in double meaning and adult comedy resulting in a lengthy story. Rajendra Prasad, Shivaji, socio fantasy concept, CG work are positives while overdosed boothu comedy, low and inconsistent quality of production, Sonia, weak music are negatives for this movie.
For frontbenchers along with B & C centre audience, this movie although low in standards may be a sufficient and spicy meal.
