Behind the Movie Boochamma Boochodu: Following the trend of horror comedy initiated by Kanchana, Prema Katha Chithram, a row of films are hitting the marquee. One among them is this flick directed by Rewon Yadu with Shivaji, Kainaz Motiwala as leads. Let us see how far this flick is worth?

In the Movie Boochamma Boochodu: Story takes off with a bomb blast in a swanky villa and titles roll. Five years passed and in to the present, a beautiful couple of Karthik (Shivaji) and Shravani (Kainaz) purchase the same villa to spend a week for celebrating Shravani birthday. Their romantic life gets disturbed with entry of two evil spirits of a dead married and separated couple Prabhakar and Senorita. What do these evil spirits actually want? How Doctor Uncle Charan (Brahmanandam), Thieves (Thagubothu Ramesh, Venu and Dhanraj) and Shravani’s brother (Chammak Chandra) enter into the house is rest.

Values & Out of the Movie Boochamma Boochodu: The dose of inspiration oozed by Maruthi and team with ‘Prema Katha Chithram’ is too high that RGV ‘Ice Cream,’ Kona Venkat ‘Geethanjali’ and now ‘Boochamma Boochadu’ follow the same format of creating horror in a mysterious bungalow or villa. Director Rewon Yadu and writer Sai Krishna have got a new story with old twists. Yet, it’s the screenplay which could have been a lot better before it began to test the patience of viewers. Entire first half runs at very slow pace with hot romance sending boring waves. Basically, dialogues too lacked in strength to alert the audience. Interval block was well conceived, however leaves a weak impact with hurried execution. Good that at least one can sense that this is a twist in tale. Camera work by Vijay Mishra was average while Praveen Pudi editing missed in sharpness at key junctions. Music by Sekhar Chandra is not his standard of work. Production values Ramesh, Prasad Reddy are mediocre.

On performance front, Kainaz is scarier than Shivaji. She has got those peculiar face features to emote the horror expressions. Shivaji was most of the time casual and his dialogues missed most of the times in lip sync. Kainaz is a hot naughty and scary beauty. Brahmi did well in a feeble character just like Jabardasth team went vulgar to cheer the exhausted viewers. Posani, Vennela Kishore failed totally. Rest of the two artists who have done evil characters with a flashback are just ok.

From Shivaji’s point of view, ‘Boochamma Boochodu’ is a far better film than his past disasters. There was a horror string in the story which could have dealt with sharpness. Instead, Yadu imbibed lot of lag into the narration. If first half was concentrated more on Kainaj-Shivaji romance, second half brings in many characters to fill the two hour run time. The episode on Jabardasth team evaporated the real horror or thriller essence and made ‘Boochamma’ a far more silly film. Message filled climax was face saving. All in all, ‘Boochamma Boochodu’ did not have enough thrills and frills to scare the viewers.
