Behind the Movie Anekudu: Tamil Hero Dhanush needs no introductions for Telugu people. The talented artist still waits for a good break in Telugu and released ‘Anekudu’ which is already a big hit in Tamil. Let us see how good was this combination of KV Anand and Dhanush?
In the Movie Anekudu: Story of the film is about regression therapy and how the souls of a couple (Dhanush, Amyra Dastur) are caught in a problem which links three of their past births. Their history dates back to 1960 in Burma where Samudra (Amyra), Army General’s daughter and daily laborer Bullabbayi (Dhanush) end their lives in love. Second life as a Prince (Dhanush) and Princess (Amyra) also ends on unusual note. Third one is in Vizag. A local Tapori Kali (Dhanush) and his lady love Kalyani (Amyra) get killed. There are different characters like Gaming Company MD Kiran (Karthik), Police Officer (Ashish Vidyarthi) etc with different shades of past memories haunt Madhumitha (Amyra) and Ashwin (Dhanush) in present life. There is a problem behind and how Madhu, Ashwin solve it is rest.
Values & Out of the Movie Anekudu: Interweaving four births by lacing all of them into one is an unusual thought from KV Anand. It is hard to sustain the interest because audience generally falls into confusion trap when you place loop within loop. However, Anand’s screenplay is so formidable and a little of such confusion resulted in building of thrill. ‘Anekudu’ can also be called a love story of generations connected with murders and crime. For viewers who enjoy plain movies, ‘Anekudu’ is as scary as Algebra. Still, there are plenty of threads and each of them is tied with a definite purpose. That is the genius approach from director KV Anand.
Om Prakash camera work is top notch. Burma backdrop, current MNC work culture is exquisitely presented. However, the Vizag backdrop in second half and a song of Princely romance were boring. Editing of Anthony has been a tricky work. He managed to deliver an effective touch. Harris Jayaraj music is average. Songs aren’t hummable and BGM was fine. Production values of Ayngaran International are top notch.
Dhanush is a gifted actor. He was refreshing all four roles. For Telugu patrons, this might purely sense like overdose of Arava Paithyam and it is. Mannerisms and body language of Dhanush aren’t pleasing many times. Amyra Dastur is an expressive face. She has those gorgeous looks and ease to perform. Veteran Karthik was stylish throughout. Among the rest, Ashish Vidyarthi, Aishwarya Devan and Jagan etc showed their strong presence.
‘Anekudu’ can be called a commercial film coated with distinctive story and script, never touched. Though past life remembrances are successful in Telugu with recent hit verdict of ‘Manam,’ this film is a six times fast forward. Despite all these, it suffers with missing of Telugu nativity and Tamil flavor dominates. Zero comic quotient also served a big drawback.
Till interval point, KV Anand maintained good speed and kept viewers on edge of seat with thrill and suspense creating elements. Second half lacks in curiosity and plot becomes predictable with crucial lock opened. Momentum falls down scene by scene before movie extends to a regular climax. Commercially, ‘Anekudu’ can fare well in top centers if makers promote it properly else it can disappear in no time.
‘Anekudu’ is a mishmash of three to four regular plots intensified with a suspense factor. For those who loved KV Anand films in the past can be half satisfied with this one too. Give a try, if you relish on unusual narration style. Dhanush and Amyra won’t disappoint you much.
