Adda Movie Review

Behind the Movie Adda: Akkineni camp young hero Sushant in need of a good break has took a long break before taking up this project with debutant director Karthik Reddy given the responsibility. ‘Lovely’ fame Shanvi is the heroine and successful Anup Rubens scored music. Let us see, how good is this ‘Adda’?

In the Movie Adda: Story begins with Abhi (Sushanth) introduced as a Love Breaker (opposite to Love Guru), who divides lovers those coming to Registrar Office for Register Marriage. So, Registration Office is the Adda of Abhi along with his group of friends (Nalla Venu, Dhanraj, Thagubothu Ramesh). On the other side is the family of local rowdy Shankar Patel (Nagineedu) and his two daughters Puja (Suhasini), Priya (Shanvi). Into the story, Puja’s marriage is fixed with one more rowdy Deva (Dev Gill) but she falls in love with childhood friend (Avasarala Srinivas).

To see her sister separated from boy friend, Priya hires the services of Abhi. In the process, even Priya falls for Abhi while Puja runs away from home. In a small twist with matter of prestige, Shankar Patel promises to give his younger daughter Priya for Deva. Then, what kind of situations did Abhi create for himself to prove his love as sincere? How Deva reacts to it? All these form the rest.

Values of the Movie Adda: Good to see young and debutant directors coming up with new concepts. Karthik Reddy had a simple and conventional story with good scripting for a while. Once story starts to unfold, treatment went on weird lines. Into the second half, entire narration misses the track with plenty of mistakes digging the grave. Dialogues of Karthik Reddy were good in bits and pieces. Direction and screenplay wise, his infancy was visible. Arun Kumar’s cinematography was a total let down and Goutham Raju’s editing was below average to pretty normal. As usual Anup Rubens composed trademark tunes and background was also customary. Production wise, Chintalapudi Srinivas Rao and Naga Susheela stood lavish.

Performance wise, Sushant is developing into a confident artist with lot of ease evident in emotional scenes. His comic timing has improved immensely and the hard work in dances should be added with little more grace. Another area where Sushant stood as winner is in dialogue delivery. Shanvi is tiny and pretty cute but needs to add more adipose. Dev Gill, Nagineedu are just ordinary. The Gay episode taken as extension from ‘GJG’ was initially bearable, later became foul. Dhanraj, Ramesh, Venu and Raghu Babu did their portions. Kota, Tanikella Bhrani, Avasarala Srinivas, Suhasini were also just okay.

Out of the Movie Adda: Many scenes conceptualized by Karthik Reddy were fresh. Especially his screenplay was appreciable in beginning episodes when revealing the hero’s characterization. Story was freely flowing till a point of meeting between hero and heroine. Then after, Karthik over-worked to continue the same freshness in building the romantic track. Though some portions were dealt fine, narration goes on expected lines. 

Into the second half, Sushant’s character becomes confusing with unconvincing behavior till climax. If that is the flavor director actually wanted to add for hero, then he definitely failed. Flashback episodes related to Sushant’s childhood and his sorrows meant to justify the title leading to pre-climax were further painful. Again, it is an ordinary climax which isn’t expected. As a director Karthik Reddy had some brownie points to score and Sushant has increased in ratings as an artist. These are the real positives along with Anup Rubens music.

Commercially, ‘Adda’ might stay at Telugu Box Office for a short duration due to holiday season and absence of big players in market.
