UI (2024) Movie: What's Behind

Upendra is quite popular in south states especially in Telugu states apart from his home Karnataka. There is a cult following for his previous works where he acted and directed those films. After almost a decade, Upendra once again held megaphone and directed futuristic sci-fi flick 'UI'. The promotions and publicity material raises curiosity among the audiences especially those love Upendra's work are eagerly waiting for the film. UI hit the screens today, 20th December, 2024. Let's see how the film turns out to be in the review.

Upendra UI Movie: Story Review

Upendra's dual portrayal of Satya and Kalki unfolds the fight between the two amidst a turbulent narrative, as Satya's haunting visions of a catastrophic future ignite an internal struggle. Whereas Kalki, with his fiery alter ego, aims for global devastation, seeking supremacy. Conversely, Satya strives for salvation. Their conflicting desires reach a boiling point upon encountering Vamana Rao, a cunning politician exploiting people to his advantage. What happens finally, whose path leads to where and what exactly the story and movie is about is revealed in the climax.

Upendra's UI: Artists Review

Upendra delivers a phenomenal performance in UI, masterfully portraying dual personas Kalki and Satya with distinctive costumes and ideologies. His captivating act steals the show. He carried the whackiness as well as brings unique flavour in his own style and body language.

Reshma Nannaiah, though visually appealing, often falters with loud and irritating expressions, her character relegated to limited scope. Ravi Shankar shines in his pivotal role, bringing neatness and depth to the narrative.

Upendra Movie UI: Technicians Review

UI, directed by Upendra, explores society's obsession with others' problems while neglecting personal rights. This philosophical theme is uniquely presented.

Upendra shines in dual roles, Kalki and Satya, with impressive costumes and ideologies. However, his direction falls short. The first half seems loud, and confusing with some Upendra mark moments here and there.

The second half explains the core theme and seems interesting exploring key elements more in a philosophical manner. Upendra effectively conveys key points in the second half.

The fantasy world setting boasts stunning visuals and production design.

Despite good intentions, UI's narrative is convoluted, loud and confusing. Complex scenes may alienate some viewers. Dark comedy may not resonate universally.

UI's impressive VFX transports viewers to another world, complemented by Ajaneesh Loknath's captivating BGM and exceptional production design. Telugu dubbing and dialogues also shine.

However, director Upendra's vision falters due to poor editing, particularly in the first half. Upendra's signature humor and satire, typically effective in exposing societal issues, are not much in this film. He definitely tried building a different world conveying things in a more philosophical and metaphorical way. But, those layers and metaphors are excessive dominating the story.

UI Movie: Advantages

  • Upendra
  • Second Half
  • BGM
  • Production Design

UI Movie: Disadvantages

  • Confusing Plot
  • Excessive Metaphors

Upendra Directorial UI Movie: Rating Analysis

Altogether, UI is a thought-provoking social drama that tackles harsh modern realities through satire, set in a fantasy world. Its unconventional narrative and over-the-top proceedings may appeal to a niche audience, offering a unique cinematic experience from Upendra but definitely leaves much room for improvement. Considering all these elements, Cinejosh goes with a 2.25 rating for UI
