Artists, Technicians Review

Sarath Mandava tried to show Raviteja in a completely different genre and drew inspiration from real-life incidents. Though the idea is right he failed to pull it off on the screen. Trying to show Raviteja in a passive role instead of an energetic mass role is a risky one and it backfired completely. Right from the start to the finish the narration and the plot run on a predictable note. Nothing generates interest and even the so-called scenes between Raviteja and Venu Thottempudi fail to take off to another level. Till the end of the first half, the story passes off with emotions, etc but none fail to connect chords.

The investigation towards the end of the first half generates interest but it is only for a few minutes. When people expected the second half to have gripping and intense scenes featuring the investigation, everything turns predictable and viewers fail to connect chords with the characters and their emotions. The similarities of Sandalwood smuggling akin to Pushpa and others decreased the interest levels. Sarath Mandava failed to pen the characters of Raviteja and Venu Thottempudi in a powerful manner. Even the weak villain and uneven execution of the ending and the heroic elements turned off the viewers. Dialogues turned out to be pretty ordinary.

Raviteja is known for his highly energetic roles. For the entire film, his energy goes missing. He pales completely and is off-color though he enacted the high-octane scenes to perfection. Raviteja for all the styling done looked aged and with the glow missing in his face, and dark circles around his eyes, and cheeks went inside, disappointed with his looks. Dances lacked his energy. He tried to make up for it with his dialogue delivery and powerful performance and he impresses during the investigation scenes.

Raviteja and Venu Thottempudi's scenes are the only thing in the film that takes forward the narration. Rajisha Vijayan got an important role and she is ok in her role. Divyansha Kaushik's role did not play any part in the story. She did not even appeal with her looks and tried to attract with her glamor treat in songs. Both Rajisha and Divyansha got forgettable roles.

Anveshi Jain sizzled redhot in the special song. Venu Thottempudi made a comeback with this film. He impressed with his dialogues delivery. John Vijay played the role of a typical villain. However, the role is routine. Others like Nassar, Naresh, Pavithra Lokesh, Chaitanya Krishna, Tanikella Bharani, Rahul Ramakrishna, Madhusudhan Rao, Chammak Chandra, Pruthviraj, Surekhavani got extremely routine roles and they passed through the motions.

Sam CS' music did not make any impact. The song's placement affected the film's narration. His background music is a little better. The cinematography of Satyan Sooran is good. He gave a natural feel to the proceedings. The editing of KL Praveen left a lot to be desired. The slow pace and the repetitive scenes tested the patience of the viewers. Production values are good.

Rating Analysis

Sarath Mandava's attempt to show Mass Raja Raviteja as a messiah of the poor in the role of a government officer excited all. However, in his quest to balance the mass image of Raviteja by coloring it with a class touch backfired completely. Right from the word go, Ramarao On Duty, with confusing screenplay and weak characterization slipped into a point of no return and went on a Rudderless Duty. Considering all these points, CJ goes with a 2 rating for Ramarao On Duty.
